The Meaning Of Heaven

Jimmy

King Phenomenon
The Bible tells us that a new heaven and earth will come. That means we will live on a new earth and in a new heaven. When the Bible speaks of going to heaven after you die it’s not speaking of some ethereal/otherworldly realm. It’s speaking of a heaven that’s here. Heaven is just simply referring to the outer part of our universe that surrounds our earth.

The word heaven basically means high. Above. The physical heavens are above us. From our perspective, of course, it includes the planet we live on. The spiritual heavens exist "above" the physical. The earth was created to be inhabited. By man. The spiritual heavens were created to be inhabited by spirit beings. A new heaven and earth is a reference to the removal of Satan and the demons in heaven, then earth and so their influence on earth. No more sin, death, hell (grave), Satan, demons or wicked. Similar language was used in the Hebrew scriptures to describe a new Jerusalem. New government, new people, new environment. Revelation is that sort of thing only on a larger, including global scale.

I don’t think otherworldly heavens exist.

Otherworldly? relating to an imaginary or spiritual world? You believe God exists? You believe he exists in this world?

PS I have read many threads on this forum but haven't interacted much with posters yet, so I'm not sure if I've talked to you or what you believe.

Nice post. Many Christians (mostly P) think that when they die their soul will zoom off to Heaven for eternity. But that is not at all what tradition (and scripture) of the early church tells us.

As you say, a new heaven and earth.

The scholar and former bishop (Anglican) NT Wright (his biography of St. Paul is AMAZING) phrases it (our end) as life after life after death.

It is the ultimate mystery.

I used to think it was the ultimate mystery, but it’s easily accepted when you look at the mystery of the living God. If I had to choose an ultimate mystery, it would be God himself. …but then again he brings great comfort. ….he still is a wonder to behold though.

What exactly is it that you'd like to debate since you posted your thread in general religious debates? I'm also curious to know the purpose of your other threads, Trinity and Why Do You Reject Jesus? I can only speak for myself, but this thread and the other two I linked sound very preachy to me. Are you really interested in debating others about the context of your OPs, or are you attempting to proselytize and preach? I ask because you don't indicate in your OPs what you want to debate. Do you want to debate about whether there is a heaven or not, or whether what the Bible says about it is true or not?

I’ll debate whatever you want in all three threads. I think I’ve demonstrated that. In one of the threads there’s over 100 posts where I’ve been debating back-and-forth. The reason why they’re in debate sections is because they’re touchy subjects obviously as your accusation clearly proves. In none of these threads did I ever become preachy once. I’ve simply stated things that are in the Bible.

I'm not interested in debating whatever I want in your threads. I asked you what you wanted to debate, because these are your threads, not mine. And yes, I've been reading your "Why Do You Reject Jesus?" thread from the perspective of a former Christian evangelist and street preacher. This is why I said the OP sounded preachy to me. Asking others, "What is your reason for not accepting Jesus Christ as your lord and savior?" sounds preachy to me. So, I thought I'd ask what the purpose of your threads is, and what you want to debate. If I was mistaken about your intent, then I apologize for the misunderstanding.

I see where you could think that but I’m really being sincere.

I think it’s obvious what the debates are about after reading my openers. People seem to have been picking up on it pretty easily.

Where is that said in the Bible? Could heaven be just higher state of existence (similar to body, mind and thoughts)?

“I am the resurrection and the life.” – John 11:25
  • “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” (John 5:24)
In Mark 13:32, Jesus had been teaching his disciples about his return and says, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Luke records it this way, “You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Lk 12:40).
