The Myth of Adam and Eve

Well, I just wanted to find out if there are Christians who still believe that Adam and Eve really existed.
I clarify that almost all Catholic clergymen explain people that Adam and Eve are just fictional characters invented to explain the origin of mankind.

I think that I understood that Adam and Eve never existed when I was ten years old. I was raised in a very Catholic environment and fortunately I've always had teachers who clarified what was real and what was fictional in the Bible.

I tend to believe that they did but I think the religious implications of the story are more meaningful than taking it as literal history. The way I tend to look at Genesis as almost a story that's taking place on another dimension but that has deep significance for all times.

I wish people understood these books evolved into their current state.

They were not written by one hand.

They were not written to be literal historical accounts.

Well, I don't understand what you mean by that. Do you mean that it was a true story?

I perfectly understand you. I'm a very rational person and I feel in my heart that God could have never created Earth and man in the way described in the Bible.
so I believe in Evolution, and the modern rational man is just the result of a very very slow process.

No, it is mythology by all historical and scientific standards.

The problem you will face are the YEC who will have only faith to back their position. You wont get a real debate about this from them. And you wont change their faith.

People who did no use reason and knowledge to gain their faith, will not change it with education, reason and knowledge.

You will find yourself banging your head against a wall.

Well, as I said in the thread, I just wanted to know the percentage of Christian people who believe the Adam and Eve story. Obviously I respect their beliefs and I would never try to convince them to change their mind.

Quite a few polls on YEC, and biblical literalist.

What is reflected in this forum wont give you any sort of accurate percentages.

We have are share, is safe to say.

Is Adam and Eve real? It depends on how one reads the story. I find the story of The Wizard of Oz very real.

I believe you had the blind leading the blind. There is no evidence that the story is fictional.

I believe that is not rationality but the result of a confused mind and relying on feelings.

I believe discounting an all powerful God in exchange for believing an unproven theory of men who know very little does not appear rational to me.

Actually there is plenty of evidence to that effect. Most creationists that deny reality do not even understand the nature of evidence and that becomes obvious when they make the sort of demonstrably wrong and dogmatic claim as you just did.

There are literally mountains of scientific evidence that support the theory of evolution. Now one can claim that they are not convinced, though that is a rather odd position to take since the only concept supported by scientific evidence is the theory of evolution, but one cannot honestly claim that there is no evidence for the science.

I do understand evidence. There was an ancient alien show where there was depicted what looked like man made structures. However scientists were saying they were naturally made. Yes there was evidence but with two opposite conceptions of what the evidence meant.

Then there is Pilltdown Man who was evidence of nothing more than a hoax but it fooled the scientists into making a wrong assessment.

If you understood evidence then you would acknowledge that there are mountains of scientific evidence for evolution and none for creationism. I can show you why this is the case. And you need to find a valid source to support your claims. Lastly if you rely on Piltdown Man to attempt to refute the theory of evolution then you only reinforce my claim that you do not understand science, evidence or even logic. The Piltdown Man was a hoax, hoaxes cannot be used against a concept. The theory of evolution never relied on Piltdown Man. Your bringing it up would be the same as trying to refute Christianity by referring to the many hoaxers that abused your religion.
