The Next Pop-Culture Based Religion?

Yes I agree. George Lucas actually based the beliefs of the Jedi on Buddhism and Christianity, so I guess Jediism is a lot like Buddhism and Christianity. I know I saw a ton of Buddhist overtones in the Star Wars movies.

I see more Taoism than Buddhism... but that's just me.

Where's the Christianity? It was based on Buddhism, Taoism(Pantheism) and Bushido. If you mean the whole 'Chosen One' form Ep. One, I don't see how that's still Christianity.

No I mean that they said on that history channel documentary about Star Wars, Lucas said he got the redemptive elements of Episode VI from Christianity. How Darth Vader saved his son from the Emperor and redeemed himself even at his death. Lucas said he believed it was most telling of the Christian belief that it is never too late to redeem oneself.

Yeah that's because star wars is just a bunch of old samurai movies spliced together and set in space. There are potentially lots of different aspects that where stolen from other sources too.

In light of all this, I'm reminded of a Futurama quote from the episode "Hell is Other Robots":

Professor Farnsworth: Oh, why couldn't [Bender] have picked a more mainstream religion, like Oprahism, or voodoo?

;)

"In light of all this, I'm reminded of a Futurama quote from the episode "Hell is Other Robots": "

That has got to be a play off of Sartre's, "Hell is other people."

Seriously though, how would a church of Harry Potter or something be formatted? Would it consist of building some kind of Philosophical way of life and precepts around the 7 HP books?

Chaos magicians will use whatever system they see fit to get the results they desire. So Harry Potter, Pokemon or Star Wars even the Flying Spaghetti Monster are legitimate systems for a Chaote to follow.

Suspension of disbelief is what is necessary for it to work.

If belief is looked at as a tool, modern fiction is a powerful frame.

Seriously? Nobody thought of this?
Praise the Immortal God Emperor of Mankind!
All heretics shall fall at the feet of this new faith.
I am suprised nobody actually tried this, sure there are Na'vi otherkin, but nobody wants to worship the Emperor.

I doubt it matters what you worship, it is the sort of person you are which is important, not your faith.
