The NRA bans guns inside its national convention

The NRA is having it's annual convention this weekend in Indianapolis. They featured all the republican nominees for president for the 2024 election. Yet oddly the NRA has banned guns in a convention that promotes guns. The irony of this is that this organization, and politicians who support it, advocate for more guns in society at large. Guns in schools, guns at stores, guns in libraries, guns in theaters, guns on the street open carry, guns at church, guns at concerts, guns at political rallies, guns in hospitals, guns in parks, guns everywhere all the time, except their own convention.

Can anyone explain how this makes sense? Is the NRA afraid of guns?

Source?

There are no links whatsoever, so it's just a bunch of vapid hearsay at this point.

That claim is only partially accurate:

What's True
It's true firearms were not allowed at the hall where former U.S. President Donald Trump and former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, among others, were slated to address the event. However ...

What's False
... Attendees could carry firearms at other events during the conference.

Because many MAGAs will attend.
And the NRA will have armed security, which is
necessary when possession is banned. So the
convention won't have the problems seen at
schools & churches, where perps know they'll
be shooting fish in a barrel.

It's been reported and isn't a secret. Don't you find it hypocritical of gun rights advocates want guns allowed everywhere but restrict them at the NRA convention? Isn't it filled with the "good guys with guns"? Shouldn't it be the safest place for all the speakers?

It is actually the Secret Service that is causing this ban, and I can understand it. They still have to protect Trump and Pence and they do not feel safe around weapons. Which makes sense. if some crazy wanted to kill Trump pr Pence that would have been an excellent place to do it.

It does actually make sense. It's just that there is a little bit of irony to it.

I still see no sources as expected, and of course there's more to this than the lopsided misinformation thread you made on it by your reluctance to even provide a link.

So the secret service thinks guns are dangerous to the well being of Trump even in front of NRA members? But republicans think guns in schools or theaters don't pose a threat to ordinary citizens?

Trump is not the best judge in these matters earlier. On January 6 he did not want people screened with metal detectors. He told them that they would not be after him or some other words to that effect. He did not think that he was in danger. But thinking that one is safe is when assassinations often occur. Bobby Kennedy was shot in what he thought was a safe environment. His brother was assassinated while amongst a parade in a heavily pro-Kennedy area. If one is ready to throw away one's life it used to be far too easy to kill top officials. The Secret Service has learned its lessons and takes protecting Presidents and ex-Presidents very very seriously these days.

IMPORTANT: Security Information for the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum. Please read carefully.
U.S. Secret Service will control security within Hall A of the Indiana Convention Center and require attendees of the forum to be screened through magnetometers before entry. You will be subject to a search of your person and belongings.
Per the U.S. SECRET SERVICE, firearms, firearm accessories, knives, and other items WILL NOT BE PERMITTED in Hall A. For a full list of prohibited items, please click here. Read the list of prohibited items carefully before traveling to the event. You will not be allowed in Hall A with any of the items on this list. Attendees are strongly advised to not bring bags to help with timely security processing.

So did the NRA ban guns in hall A or did secret service ban guns in hall A?

Guns pose a threat to others, or not? If what the NRA claims is true then good guys with guns are a safe thing.

Maybe the NRA has been lying all this time as kids get murdered in their classrooms.

So no one can explain why guns had to be banned from an event if they are a right? What about all the criticism about "gun free zones" that we hear about? Is the NRA's position on gun free zones just dangerous propaganda?
