The only thing that determines human value

The only thing that is of value in life and the only thing that determines your value as a human being is your happiness and well-being. If you are living a blissful life and everything is going great in your life, then that is the only thing that matters in life and that is the only thing that makes your life great and you great & superior.

But if you live a life of much hardship and suffering, then that makes you and your life inferior crap. It is not your personality, actions, choices, etc. that determines the value of you and your life. Happiness and well-being is the only thing that matters in life and this is the only thing that determines the value of you and your life.

If I were to pick one thing of value, I'd say that only thing that determines human value is life.

If you value that, it doesn't matter if you're happy or miserable, or if your term is short or extended. You did it, you lived.

Go you.

A clock can't determine its value nor a car or a bird. In the same token humans cannot determine there own value. You'll have to ask some animals or plants how they value us as a species.

woah utilitarian much?

While I agree that happiness is an idea end in itself, I don't think only happiness contributes to the value of life. Rather...the potential to be happy (potential for pleasure) is what makes life so precious. Although a newborn child hasn't experienced much pleasure in their lives, their live is still valuable because we see its potential in that child may be grow up, form meaningful relationships, enjoy the pleasures of life etc. Another dimension, which is quite religious in nature,is that human life stands above other forms of life because it is only in a human life that we can understand, love and form a relationship with God (which is the ultimate and most fulfilling pleasure). My value as a human being to whom?

If you are living a blissful life and everything is going great in your life, then that is the only thing that matters in life and that is the only thing that makes your life great and you great & superior.
So if I'm living a blissful life and everything is going great, then I'm superior to those not living a blissful life and where everything is not going great. Hmmm. . . . . kind of a crazy notion. So what kind of definition of "superior" are you using here?

But if you live a life of much hardship and suffering, then that makes you and your life inferior crap.
Inferior to the blissful sot whose life is going great, but superior to the starving kid struggling to stay alive while infected with Ebola in some African hovel. My question: So what?

It is not your personality, actions, choices, etc. that determines the value of you and your life. Happiness and well-being is the only thing that matters in life and this is the only thing that determines the value of you and your life.
So if I just sit on my hands all day only moving to eat, pee, and poop, happiness and well being will come to me? Interesting.

It is only those said actions and personality traits that are geared towards the pursuit of your own happiness and well-being that makes you a great person. But those actions and personality traits that are instead geared towards the sacrificing of your happiness and well-being or those that are geared towards living and persevering through a life that is devoid of happiness and well-being, then these said traits are nothing great at all.

In short:

If you are someone who lives only for his/herself (his/her happiness and well-being), then that makes you a great person. You choose to avoid pain and suffering and seek a blissful life. That is what makes you great.

But if you are someone who is the opposite of that, then you are nothing great at all.

What, not a superior person? Or is it both superior and great?

You choose to avoid pain and suffering and seek a blissful life. That is what makes you great.

I'll leave you to wallow in your silliness here, and I apologize for taking up your time with points I have no real interest in. Have a good day.

Must say we obviously have greatly differing values.

What, not a superior person? Or is it both superior and great?

Life is of value but humans not as much especially when they are preoccupied in taking from everyone one and everything obsessively in their pursuit of personal happiness.
