The only truly religious people are Muslims

Many of us criticize Muslims for discriminating against women and homosexuals. We are always very bothered when they stone women to death for cheating or burn someone who offends their beliefs. You know what, the Quran specifically says to do these things, and they're listening. The Christians aren't doing this. The Christian God fully supports slavery (1 Peter 2:18). Jesus said that children who disrespect their parents should be killed (Matthew 15:4). He also said that his enemies should slaughtered in front of him (Luke 19:27). We don't follow these things because we are not aware that these quotes exist. A true Christian would be acting just like the radical Muslims. He would kill every gay he sees and every woman who has "done it" before marriage. This is why I am not religious. Do these things sound moral to you? I say get your morals from the Golden Rule and the good quotes from all books.

Is this primarily for Abrahamics? Or are you pulling us Dharma folk into the mix also? We're religious too.

Um, Islam does not really tell to do these things, or at least not all of them, depending on how one interprets it, but I do see your point. I wouldn't say "only true religious people" tho, but I do agree that Muslims are the closest to religious people as a group at the moment.

Just my personal view.

This argument could be made for an over-zealous practitioner of any faith, couldn't it?

For example, there are large sections of the New Testament that refer directly to the discharging of wealth, or to the redistribution of funds in a community. Does that make Socialist Christians the most religious Christians? The Bible suggests that Christians not be too outward in their shows of faith, particularly with prayer. Does that mean that people who don't pray in public are more religious than those who do? The Bible references the need to test all assumptions about faith and keep only those that have passed testing. Does that mean that Christians who follow their faith innocently are less religious or devout than those who are skeptical of everything?

When you cherry-pick your standard for what makes someone religious, and what doesn't, then you've created a very fluid definition of religiosity. Fluidity doesn't not equate to accuracy.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Is this an issue that defines compliance to which a person is regarded religious in some people's views?
