The Passion Translation?

What do people think of The Passion Translation of The Bible?

I love it It is my favourite version

It speaks to me and touches my heart in ways others don't

It uses simple yet eloquent everyday English

Although I would never use it for scholarship due to its translation philosophy

But for personal spirituality I rate it as a fine resource

This is new to me. Care to post some passages that really speak to you?

Here is it's psalm 23

Very well done IMO

But they have removed it from Bible Gateway so it's hard to find passages online
Thanks. That was very informative.

"The Lord is my best friend and my shepherd. I always have more than enough" versus "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." told me a lot.

A "shepherd" is not necessarily the best friend of the sheep so "best friend" is an addition.

But more important "have more than enough" is very different to me to not wanting. People can be multi-billionaires but want more and more money. So not wanting means to be satisfied with what you have. Now that's my interpretation - Christian scholars could easily disagree.

I think that it was saying that he herds us as he loves us, as opposed to just herding us for a job

And indeed preferable to it

Just subsisting is no good, we should aim for abundance

Definitely not. God says not to add to this word or take away from it. Who authorized this man to make changes? He claimed Jesus came into his room? Jesus specifically warned about claims that he appeared in a certain room, and how he would appear.
(Matt 24: 24-27)
"There shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be."

Brian Simmons sometimes refers to Jesus as The Burning One. Jesus is not burning. The Christ of the anti-Christ-ancient mystery religion, (sun worship, Baal Worship) is associated with the sun, fire, burning, carrying a torch etc.

That's why I said I would never use it in actual serious bible study

It is a paraphrase rather than a translation

But if you know this you won't be mislead

I for one prefer it to the KJV

Good job I'm not a learn'ed bible scholar
