How many governments tell businesses what they can and cannot do with perfectly legal products? Last I heard, plastic bottles are not illegal to possess and distribute.
But plastic is known to be a serious polluting problem.
So expect more and more regulation concerning its use.
We see this everywhere.
In Belgium for example, supermarkets today also are prohibited to distributed free plastic bags at the register like they used to. Now, they sell reusable bags and customers are motivated to bring bags with them to put their groceries in.
Suppliers of cookies etc have also received regulations concerning their packaging, as in how much % of the packaging can be plastic.
Same for delivery services like amazon-like webshops.
This is a good thing and not some kind of "communist plot".
