The POTUS should work for all Americans. Despicable Donald works for himself first, then his extremist supporters and against the Constitution and Laws of the Land.

He works for both really and it is a balance that no one will be fully pleased with. In this day and age we seem to be having quite a few really close elections between dueling political perspectives. This makes it a sort of roll of the dice which political perspective gets to hold the reigns at the top. There are guiding principles that help to preserve that the will of the people will be obeyed and not the will of the president such as the various mechanisms for balance of power between the three main branches of government, rules of law and ethics for conduct as an elected official.

There is also the now very much missed symbolism of a president who represents the sincerity of all citizens no matter what their political perspective is. White supremacy, ruthless (amoral) capitalism is having its last day in the sun as the majority white culture is facing more and more becoming less of a significant majority even as other races are integrating into our common American culture and religious literal-ism is dying like the fairy tale we all know it now to be.

Ideally, the president should work for the interests of the American people.

But then, this also leads to another question: What, exactly, is the president's "work"? He's supposed to be the chief executive and in charge of the Executive Branch of government.

He should be out there supervising and managing - making sure that employees don't take too many smoke breaks and that the bathrooms are cleaned regularly - that sort of thing.

He should also be checking the books, making sure there's no funny business in the accounting department (an area where every president seems to be a bit too lax).

He should make sure that the White House kitchen puts an equal number of blueberries in the muffins.

I think ideally the later. I suspect the people who elect them are mostly programmed by social media and have little idea of what they actually need.
