The racial equality battle is still ongoing

In most countries the fight for racial equality is still far from complete. This is especially true of the USA.
Where it periodically bursts in to a fire fight.
On top of the present riots and protests. The American establishment is working hard to vilify the Chinese.

These incidents are seen by the authorities as a way to increase their popularity and gain support when things get difficult.

This is almost certainly more to do with internal politics, and Trumps take on the cause of America's dwindling dominance of world trade. and his insistence on blaming the Chinese authorities for His own inept handling of Ccvid19, and lack of success in fulfilling his election promises.

The virus is out there, it will continue to kill people in all countries. though some are doing a far better job of controlling its spread than others. China is one of the best at doing so amongst a vast population.
They gave sufficient warning when its nature became clear, for some countries to react very swiftly indeed to curb its progress. While the USA appears to have given up... and is now trying to put the blame on China for its own ineptitude and lack of preparedness.

The American Executive is making every effort it can, to take advantage of whatever it can, to salvage Trump's chances of reelection.

It is inflaming the racial unrest by increasing the violent use of military, militia and the police, then blaming Biden of for the support of those inflamed to riot. in the hope of turning white support against him.

They are doing much the same against China, in order to win over all those voters that lost jobs when their employers outsourced their jobs abroad. You can not blame those countries for taking up those offers of trade . China, Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines and indeed Mexico and central America have all made good use of this, to increase the technical development of their own countries and educate their own workforce.

One can expect to see further examples of Xenophobic and racially motivated moves, both leading up to the election and after. The USA is on a downward path and its political leadership is determined to take others downward with it.

Unfortunately for Countries like the UK, they are following much the same path because they are afraid of upsetting the USA, and as yet, do not see that China is a much more stable trade partner.

China has responded to the unrest in its Hong Kong territories, by putting in place legislation to increase its ability to take direct direct control of the situation. While this was always possible in the long term under the agreement, set up at Independence from the UK. One can understand quite easily their frustration at seeing their most prosperous province doing its best to destroy itself. while watching from the sidelines.

It is certain that the USA would have stepped in, in force, if one of its states or dependencies was tearing itself apart. However the Chinese have done no more than legislate for that possibility.

The Chinese are certainly not Saints in the light of Western sensibilities. but it abides by its own rules and laws. which is no more and no less than that every country should be seen to do.

so the story.....

a coworker/salesman would go to China
and he met someone he wanted to marry

it took years.....and when he could he would fly to China to make sure
his deal was still on

on one occasion he and his beloved were out walking and passed a beggar

"Steve" reached in his pocket for the American style of sympathy
pocket change

his bride to be pulled him back and explained....
the poor man is called....untouchable
literally

It seems......if you fall from grace in China
you will die in poverty....

I got a story about life in China

not good

As a Westerner I would not care to live under the Chinese laws or systems.

I can see that anyone who is determined not to conform, would find life very tough and probably quite short.

However as a people and as a political and economic system they are highly successful.
Their educational, scientific, industrial , financial and business achievements can only be classed as outstanding over the past few decades.

These advances will undoubtedly cause many changes both politically and socially over time.
This will be influenced even further by the increasingly dominant role that they will play both in their own back yard but also on the world stage.

These changes will happen what ever the USA or the world might wish.

Their time as "Mainline Communists" was as remarkably dramatic as it was short.
In this at least they are mirroring the experience of Russia.
Their present Hybrid economy, can be only an intermediate stage, subject to inevitable changes.

Social change will undoubtedly be far slower. it is as autocratic to day, as it was under the Emperors. only the personnel and titles have changed. This is neither good nor bad, its is the prerogative of every sovereign people to choose.

We are not so formal about it in the West
we let them die anyway ... we just have more of them.

there is a flip to the story I posted minutes ago....
'Steve' had a tooth ache

he and his fiancé when to the dentist
she translated
he had an abscess and soon to lose three teeth

all three teeth were removed
and implants installed
all in the same visit

charge?...….80dollars

but I digress

Rules & laws which allow discrimination based upon
race, religion, ethnicity, & political persuasion.
China is a really poor example of tolerance.

Chine has a collective hive mentality when it comes to its own people.
Conformity is good....

They are not that bothered by any of these things provided you conform.
However they treat foreigners well enough if they trust them, and are good reliable trading partners. otherwise they keep themselves to themselves.

China is not tolerant at all when it comes to non conformity.
That is their choice.

If the USA was less of a busybody the world would get on far better.

They literally arrested people trying to tell the world about the dangers of the virus in December. Do you really believe they were being as open and honest as they could be?

Li Wenliang - Wikipedia

They certainly arrested one Doctor. who went though unauthorised channels. for spreading alarm.
Just as the USA arrests whistle blowers, the Chines work by the book.
When the information and evidence about the virus went through the correct channels the resulting action was very swift indeed.

I have no doubt that they have learned from the experience and amended their rules to to comply with the urgency of these very rare situations.

They were almost certainly more open honest and faster to action, than either the USA or the UK. who had neither an action plan, nor resources to deal with such situations in place. and if anything played down the seriousness of the situation.
Trump still does not understand the implications, and has largely given up doing anything. And has clearly been lying about it in his tweets.

How foreigners, especially black people, became unwelcome in parts of China amid COVID crisis

Same as in the U.S., only "grace", here, comes with serving the wealthy capitalist's endless desire for ever greater profits.

Not surprising really when it has been established that coloured peoples seem to be far more affected by the Virus.
Though I do not know if it is established if they are any more likely to transmit the disease.

But African and those from the Indian subcontinent are far more affected by it in the UK, than the white or yellow populations. and a far higher proportion are dying from it.

You have a very rose-tinted view of the Chinese government given their fanatical attempts to control political narratives and prevent open spreading of information.

As New Coronavirus Spread, China’s Old Habits Delayed Fight
At critical turning points, Chinese authorities put secrecy and order ahead of openly confronting the growing crisis and risking public alarm or political embarrassment.

A reconstruction of the crucial seven weeks between the appearance of the first symptoms in early December and the government’s decision to lock down the city, based on two dozen interviews with Wuhan residents, doctors and officials, on government statements and on Chinese media reports, points to decisions that delayed a concerted public health offensive.

In those weeks, the authorities silenced doctors and others for raising red flags. They played down the dangers to the public, leaving the city’s 11 million residents unaware they should protect themselves. They closed a food market where the virus was believed to have started, but didn’t broadly curb the wildlife trade.

Their reluctance to go public, in part, played to political motivations as local officials prepared for their annual congresses in January. Even as cases climbed, officials declared repeatedly that there had likely been no more infections.

By not moving aggressively to warn the public and medical professionals, public health experts say, the Chinese government lost one of its best chances to keep the disease from becoming an epidemic.

“This was an issue of inaction,” said Yanzhong Huang, a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations who studies China. “There was no action in Wuhan from the local health department to alert people to the threat.”

As for learning from experience, they didn't learn from SARS.

Next time it will be different, this time they really did get the message. Next time...

China’s response to coronavirus exposes a dangerous obsession with secrecy | Jeffrey Wasserstrom

The Sars disease rippled across the world in 2003, helped in part by the Communist party’s attempts to conceal its spread for months. During the Sars outbreak, Hong Kong had greater press freedom than mainland China. This helped accurate information come to light there, mitigating some of the damage of China’s attempts at an official cover-up. The Chinese government’s grip over the internet, media and civil society has tightened dramatically since the Sars outbreak. Under Xi’s rule, the party has taken an increasingly hardline stance towards Hong Kong, attempting to crush democratic protests and bring the territory under tighter control, while its censors have worked diligently to scrub the internet across the mainland of anything that diverges from the party’s line. Articles and comments about coronavirus continue to be deleted online and the government has issued warnings against spreading “rumours”. While the party claims to be learning everything it can from the Sars crisis, it seems blind to important lessons.

That Beijing is determined to prevent Taiwan from joining the World Health Organization is another glaring example of how party ideologies have trumped pragmatism. Taiwan has long functioned as a self-governing country, but the CCP insists it is part of Chinese territory. Following in the footsteps of organisations such as Interpol, the WHO has acceded to Beijing’s wishes, blocking Taiwan from attending emergency briefings. This has slowed the country’s access to international health information – despite Taiwan already counting 10 cases of coronavirus. Cooperation is essential in dealing with public health crises, yet Xi’s technocrats are allowing the control of the one-party state to take precedence over sharing information as widely as possible.

Of course I have read all that before..
All countries hold back information until they understands what they are dealing with.

The American administration sat on their hands for just as long doing nothing until they got around to banning people flying from China. However . Over a million people flew in from Europe including The UK Italy and Spain, although by then they were suffering worse than China. From Covid.

Trump's handling of the situation was grossly inept and wilfully stupid.
By that time China was well past the peak and soon after had broken the back of the disease. They had cooperated with both who and individual countries and research institutions, supplying them with everything that the knew about the virus. Including the full genome and best treatments, and effective control methods.
Even Trump praised them on TV for doing an excellent job.

Yes.
But we've still got our problems here in the UK.
Although the problems in the USA are on our televisions all the time we do need to sort out our own racial problems........ and they are not good.
