It has begun......23 degrees, 2 inches of snow....it appears winter finally woke up in the Adirondacks....now if we get to spring without at least one day of 3 feet of snow already on the ground with a storm on its way to dump another foot or two.....then something is wrong.....We have had Decembers without snow before, but never as warm as it has been, heck its been in the 40s with scattered 50s for 2 weeks...this ain't normal for these parts..... that is about 20 degrees above normal.....

I walk my mother-in-law's dog almost every day. We don't know exactly how old she is because she was a rescue from Humane Society last fall. But I am pretty sure she wasn't weaned the last time there was snow on the ground here. I don't think she's ever experienced snow before.

Walking her this afternoon should be interesting. She is an exuberant little darling, and she loves her walks. Romping in the tall grass, snuffling in fallen leaves, digging after mice, investigating fallen limbs, all of it. This first snowfall of the year we got this morning should be extra fun.

I miss snow. To be clearer, I miss the feeling of sitting in a dark room looking out the window at falling snow turning the world white. Of course it's partly nostalgia given how long ago that memory is from but I'm enjoying a bit of nostalgia right now.

I had tons of fun this weekend. What sucked this weekend is someone stole my eyeliner and bottle of silver nail polish. Whatevs. I guess I'm glad they were good enough that someone decided to take it. It also snowed yesterday, and snowed, and snowed, and snowed, off and on with more ons than offs. But it wasn't that bad. And the "mostly boys," cabin, as it came to be called, started smelling rancid and nasty, while the "mostly girls" cabin remained smelling well, until (I'm pretty sure I know who - the girl who ended up "naming" the cabins and trying even call out the "boys cabin" out for having toilet seats up, even though all but one was down, the same way it was for the most part in the "girls cabin.") someone used an excessive amount of some lavender/floral smelling something and it became a bit rough on my nose. The highlight of the weekend, for me at least, was during the last quest, when the gods chose their champions among their followers, and I was chosen to be my god's champion. And because he is the god of magic, lore, and tactics my character's stats were boosted through the roof, and my magic abilities went from nothing special or really that good all the way above and beyond a perpetual nuclear energy power plant. My character was so powerful that only a few instant kill spells could kill me because my HP was so high, and though my character has very modest healing abilities I was out-healing the healers, and doing way more damage than the mages, even the other players who were chosen to be their god's champion. I even got a new awesome sword in-game, but hardly used it because my magic was one-hit killing most players and enemies, it was mowing over other champions when we had to briefly fight against each other, and it did seem I was the most powerful player on the field. :D
I had a great first week of work, and a fantastic end of the year for larping. Unfortunately though, the next game isn't until March. :(

The compilation system to compile the c sources for ruby requires you to have ruby already installed, making it a bit of a puzzle how to make a package for centos 7, for which almost nothing compiles simply and which has such an old version of ruby (2.0) that even the dinosaurs had it. Centos is based on security, and having ruby in your build system isn't.

I also ended up leaving lots of seeds behind for the forest critters, as I went through a ton of seed-filled "spell packets" and was able to find less than half of them.

I can't wait till I get paid. Too bad it's the Friday before Christmas. I plan on getting pizza from a local joint from here to introduce my parents to it, getting some cash for my parents, getting a new vaporizer, and I really want to get my nipples pierced. I do not, however, want to venture out into the manic frenzy of crowds that flood and plague the lands just before Christmas.

I need nerdy friends in real life to share my stories with, such as how I now carry an adamantine sword that was forged for me by a dwarf (most unusual since dwarves and dark elves traditionally are bitter and mortal enemies as dwarves typically possess extreme prejudice against dark elves), being the champion of a god and possessing such great power, or the conclusion of the story arc involving a massacre the town caused my first game with a paladin who was guarding an item we needed during that quest becoming a death knight over it, killing those who were there over the next few games, and sacrificing himself yesterday to give peace and rest to those slain in the massacre.

Just made Indian pudding for the first time...it is cooling on the counter as I type.... and the youngest is currently making gingerbread cookies at this very moment.....
I had to look up Indian pudding. It sounds tasty, but maybe too sweet depending on how it's made.

Just don't forget us little folk.
My heart is still with the "little folk." Especially, I've found, for the "little little folk" who have autism, and having to keep my inner rage inside when they are doubted by others. He won't be a scholar or anything like that, the teacher says? No, with that attitude he won't. Stupid *****.
I used working with autistic clients as an "entry point" during my interviews, but I think I might consider going in that direction. It's frustrating to see how these kids are doubted, even though they clearly are not dumb even if they have problems in some areas.
I was also told by the drug addict/recovery case manager that I'll be a rock star with my background if I'm able to write well. I had a feeling I might, because the day before I was told that, I read in one report where a case manager spelled "you"--I **** you not--as "u." And it was done multiple times. By a lady who is middle aged. Hearing college professors threatening to fail papers with such atrocious spelling is one thing, but professional-level people doing it? And submitting it to medicaid, child protection services/DCS, and the state? I wish I was bull****ting over that.

I also realized this weekend I really hate how I have to dress for work. And my eyebrow doesn't like having to take out the jewelry and putting it back in day-after-day. But upholding bourgeois standards outside of work is just something I can't do. So my hardware is diligently put back in their respective holes day-after-day, even if my eyebrow does get a little sore.

If you do go into helping kids with autism, that's a really worthwhile thing to do.

I recently read about how girls with autism act differently than boys - something I had never known of before.

And when dealing with people who are dealing with the s*** that was flung in their way, you'll know exactly how crappy that feels and that will be something you can use in your work.
