NYS has the same problem, folks making more to stay at home than work. And even when employer offer them the same as they are making to stay home.....they still will not go to work, and why should they, since they get the same money for doing nothing.

There is likely a retirement incentive coming, but I am 2 years short (time wise, not age) to take advantage of it. This means that if it does come and all those in my office that can take advantage of it....take advantage of it.....the IT department I am in will be...well....me.....
The country's unemployment figures are way out of whack.
They're too high.
But I don't see news coverage of this at all.

As far as some getting too much, we faced a choice - get it out fast or create an unholy bureaucracy that would take months on end to deal with paperwork designed to prove that the amount given was the amount deserved.

Every solution generates a problem. To me getting money in people's hands quickly and for a limited time was very much better than creating a monstrous bureaucracy that might start sending out checks in 2022.

Yup. Uncle Sam gives me in one week what I made in two doing case management. Now I make about what I would driving if I didn't have expenses.

I can't take much more of Mrs Wu's buying into, propagating, and fearing conspiracy theories she is reading and hearing......I'm thinking I need to build a shed in the backyard to go sit in

On the other side are the discouraged who have stopped looking and are not being counted.

I was, in fact, thinking of the difference between U3 which people focus on and U6. Does the Government Lie About Unemployment?
If government uses a particular method on a continuing basis, & we
see the new phenomenon of employees refusing to return to work,
but applying for unemployment bennies, then this change presents
a misleading picture. The number is higher than what we expect
it to measure, ie, people looking for jobs, but not finding them.
(It now includes many people who have jobs.)

I even know of one employee who is both working and collecting
unemployment benefits. There is much fraud.

You know of one and assume "much fraud". Vagueness and use of only a tiny sample to me is an almost fact-free assertion and thus not at all valuable.

You know of one and assume "much fraud".
You mis-read my post.
I know of one who is a working employee collecting unemployment.
I also know of more of other kinds of fraud.
And then there are reports in the news.

You sure do tend to presume things which paint the picture you want.
But the question is....
Why do you want the unemployment numbers to be high?
Do you relish economic collapse?
Is it because you believe it will help defeat Trump?
Vagueness and use of only a tiny sample to me is an almost fact-free assertion and thus not at all valuable.
I've stated what I observed.
You've simply objected....which is worse than "vague".

Well, as we get to the halfway point of the year 2020, I'm hoping that the second half of the year is better than the first.

But it's an election year, and as we get closer and closer to November, the political ads will only become more numerous and more strident.

Apart from everything else about how obnoxious some of these ads are, most of them have no real creativity. No imagination goes into them - just the same tired old format.
