I don't believe the story. By 1991 (the story's date), flat belt driven machine tools had long ago disappeared from nearly commercial shop. Moreover, the belts typically connected to an overhead line shaft. His privates simply couldn't gain proximity with a belt, even with the OSHA required guards removed. There are other improbabilities too, but I limited my commentary to my are of interest, ie, the history of machine tools.
Interesting. I suppose it could be untrue, though it's on Stanford's website.

I guess I should be happy it might not be true. If it were... ouch...

I believe that people are too thin-skinned nowadays. I can be thin-skinned on occasion, myself, so I won't say anything else about it.

I'm sorry :(

It's okay. :) Everything will be fine in the end. This is just a minor setback.

Besides, I'm e-mailing various religious and social institutions and asking if they are hiring anyone for any position. Working for the aforementioned would at least be somewhat related to my degree and would give me valuable experience.

I simply don't understand why some math, simple math, is being taught the way it is now. It adds extra steps that just don't have to be there. I've been teaching my son certain simple math techniques for some time now and now they are finally getting around to teaching the types of problems I have already taught him how to solve. Only they teach how to do so in a long drawn out way. So here my son is, just putting down right answers as he's been taught to add simply and they want 2 or three steps written out for basic double digit addition. I have to basically tell him to not do it the simple way mommy taught him, erase his CORRECT answers, and do it this long drawn out way.:rolleyes: It's double digit math for crying out loud. Not formal geometry requiring proofs.

Dear Gods, it's finally dawned on me just how hateful my dad really is.
Oh, no!! What did he do? (Scratch that, none of my business)

I have nothing to do with my father. He isn't hateful he's just never, ever been there. I've seen him only 3 or 4 times in the past 43 years or so.

It wasn't anything towards me (although he has said things before), but he says some really horrible things when watching the news.

For example, with the senate releasing the reports of the CIA's post-9/11 torture methods, he basically said that the women who is issuing the release should be killed. Also that the American and South African who recently were killed in Yemen shouldn't be mourned, because they "brought it on themselves".

Goodness!! Even my totally conservative husband doesn't believe any of that.

This sounds exactly like my own mother who has said things even more worst. She suffers from bigotry and extreme hate and shows it to her own children and tries hiding behind grace of the fact she adopted me as if it makes her a saint.
I don't know why things are like this but when it comes to elders they come in two extremes.

I am sorry you have to put up with such talk dude, I really am because it hits home when I hear stuff like this.

I am disgusted by Holocaust deniers.

This guy would like to have a word with you :D.

In all seriousness I equate Holocaust deniers with people who deny the landing on the moon.

I had a couple people on my FB friends list that would post all kinds of Christian stuff, now only have one. I've often gotten into debates with the guy about things and we've never really had a conversation that didn't end up sort of "to each their own". The woman though, I contended with one thing she posted about, anti-Muslim ranting basically, and she deleted my posts and unfriended me. lol.

I don't mind religious posting really. Been known to post a pretty Pagan pic or wish people Happy Yule or the like myself. It's the judgmental bible quoting and ranting and anti-anybody kind of thing that bothers me.
