I have averaged 4 hours of sleep per night for over 2 weeks..... I'm tired
Welcome to the club! If you take the hall to the left that's down the hall to the right and go in the last door on the right you'll find the coffee/energy drink/no doz/unused prescriptions of Dexedrine should you need the boost. The room on the left has zzzquil/benedryl/alcohol/unused prescriptions of benzodiazpines if you want to kick the no-sleep thing in the ***.

I have kids. I have pets. The difference between them is enormous. To get over the loss of a pet is far easier than the loss of a child would be.
To lose a child....I cannot even imagine it.

I know you're usually tongue in cheek and all, so I may be taking this wrong, but I do consider my dog to be my child. I even take her on car rides with me, I get her burgers and ice cream to eat, and I get her lots of toys. If something happened to her, I'd be devastated.

No, you'd get another dog. There are help groups for people who lose a child and not for pet owners for a reason. And comparing your mutt to my kid is insulting and obnoxious, by the way. Hence the "mouth breathing drool bag" remark. Who does that? Ask any parent on earth to choose between the life of a child and the life of a hundred animals and watch how that piles up.

It's always such a great thing when people assume they know how you will feel over a certain thing, even when you tell them how they would feel. And yes, I would be devastated.

I wasn't comparing my dog to your kid. I was saying that to me, my dog is my kid. And I'm not the only ones who see their pets as family, or even as another kid.

I don't have to imagine. That said, I have a cat that has been with me longer than my current family. Now, I certainly don't even imagine that I would go into the downward suicidal spiral I did many years ago over my girls when he dies (and let's face it, he's 15 and has health problems, he probably doesn't have much longer) but I will still be extremely sad for quite a while once he leaves me. He's been my companion for 15 years, longer than I've known my hubby, longer than I've had my kids, in fact I had him when I did have my girls so there are memories of all kinds attached to him. A pet can be a devastating loss and while I really don't think the loss can be compared to the loss of a child, I don't think anyone should try to compare loss. Loss is loss and everyone handles things differently. Each life, even the life of an animal, has some impact upon us, who is anyone else to try to determine what that impact is?

Oh.....I should offer condolences or something....I don't know how to address such things....
You simply address it thusly: "You are so right Draka, every life has an impact and no one can judge how the loss of that life should affect someone." ;)

So is New Years seven days after Christmas or New Years one year before Christmas? I ask this because January first is the first day of the year.
