Lay off the chopped liver!
I'm really hoping it's some other severe arthritic inflammation (or just inflammation, which my initial though was an inflamed tendon near the base of the my thumb). I don't eat a lot of red meat (and nothing like liver), I love sea food but the cost keeps me from eating it more than a few times a year, I don't drink alcohol a lot, I don't consume a lot of HFCS, but I do get a lot of vitamin C, plenty of dairy, and I love orange juice and cherries. I also drink a lot of water on most days. It seems that I should be at a low-risk for developing it, especially at my age.

I don't doubt for a minute that while humans only metaphorically killed their god, the Klingons literally killed their god. And then performed some hypermasculinized ritual to celebrate.

The women are also pretty fierce
[Worf gives Wesley advice on romance from a Klingon perspective]
Wesley Crusher: Are you telling me to go yell at Salia?
Lieutenant Worf: No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you.
Wesley Crusher: What does the man do?
Lieutenant Worf: [dreamily] He reads love poetry...
Lieutenant Worf: [back to his serious self] He ducks a lot.

It turns out I don't have gout, but perhaps tendonitis, or some other form of inflammation.
I began to doubt the gout as I read about how painful it's supposed to be, and while I was in agonizing pain, it wasn't close to being severe enough to compare to what I was reading. It doesn't even rate on the top 5 worst pains I have ever had, and the first time I tore my ACL was easily 100 times worse. Even 10 years later the thought of that one still makes me cringe.

I wonder if Tom knew what he was getting himself into? A middle-aged Betazoid woman would simply be too much for a mere human, and the relationship sexually exhausting for even a young human man. But a Klingon of either sex? The poetry would be nice, but I don't I think Nine Inch Nails could even write a song about how rough that sex would be.

That sounds like good news to me.

It is. It is actually a tremendous relief. Having gout in the thumb of my dominate hand would have eventually made many things I do much more difficult, if not impossible. I can already write in my left hand, but the deformities that eventually occur with gout would have made impossible to even switch hands to play my guitars or violin. And there is also the kidney problems that are known for accompanying gout.

Went to the beach today. It was warm enough to be comfortable being barefoot.

Hubby caught some fish, so he's cooking dinner tonight. Fish tacos. Yay! (Pompano. I love Pompano. :))

Hope people had great holidays. Mine was ok, too stuffed and missing my family (darn airlines, charging arms and legs for flights to Canada) and worried about my mom's health. But there was still some good times...

I just hope my mom hasn't got a serious illness. Hopefully doctors can find out what's wrong soon.
