Massive sinkhole threatens house in central Mexico - CNN

In this other picture, it looks like it's getting closer to the house.

(CNN)A huge sinkhole some 60 meters in diameter has appeared in farmers' fields in central Mexico, threatening to swallow a nearby house.

The sinkhole is situated in Santa María Zacatepec, Puebla state, and is around 20 meters deep, said state governor Miguel Barbosa Huerta at a press conference Monday.

Barbosa said the family that lives close to the sinkhole has been evacuated. No one has been injured so far, but the governor warned local residents to stay away from the area.

The sinkhole measured five meters in diameter when it first appeared then grew quickly in just a few hours, according to Beatriz Manrique, environmental secretary for the Mexico region.

"We think that it might be a combination of two factors: the softening of the field, the whole area was being cultivated, as well as the extraction of groundwater, which softens the subsoil," said Manrique.

Sinkholes occur when ground can no longer support the land surface above it, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

This can happen for a number of reasons, including the erosion of rock beneath the land surface as groundwater passes through it, leaving a void which the surface collapses into.

In January 2021, a huge sinkhole swallowed several cars and forced the evacuation of a Covid-19 ward after opening up in the parking lot of a hospital in southern Italy.

And in January 2020, at least six people died and 16 others were injured after a massive sinkhole swallowed up a bus picking up passengers in northwestern China.

Gotta watch out for those sinkholes.

Reminds me of some show my dad was watching. I don't know what it was, but I heard what was going on, and the show producers managed to find a special kind of stupid who is more dumb than Beavis and Butthead. Those two at least have a job and get you have to have money. This show found someone who doesn't have a job, doesn't realize you have to make money, and wants to go do all this stuff. Like living on her own.

I saw some clip of some King Arthur thingy. The siren isn't a siren. They messed up. They were all a bunch of watery tarts.

Monopoly for Millennials is not about real estate because ‘you can’t afford it anyway,’ Hasbro says

“From your friend’s couch to the vegan bistro to a week-long meditation retreat.”

Players are encouraged to find new places to eat, shop and relax and to become involved in community interactions via the Chance and Community Chest cards.
Perhaps some millennials just want fancier places
than they can afford. Location is important. A friend
who is an apprentice level building contractor in his
early twenties just bought a house. But he did so
in a nearby cheaper area.
Some people say that something cannot be done,
but it usually boils down to a personal choice.

Californiastan is a bit different....it imposes high
taxes on new home buyers in order to subsidize
long time others. Your tax policy is quite unfair.

Everything I've read claims it was due to millennials entering the workforce around the time of the recession.
I've also read, rather and quite a lot, they tend to pick where they live based on location, preferring more pricey places. So that's probably more damning than the starting work as the Recession began.
Having a high level of need of affirmation of others won't help either. Nor does turning the world adult into a verb.
At this point I'd say everything but the Recession is driving millennials not achieving home ownership (I don't think they're missing out, anyways, with all the maintenance and upkeep stuff you're tasked with that you aren't when you rent).

This year alone, I'll spend about $35k on maintenance.
Roof work, paint, & radon mitigation. Home ownership
is worth it for me because of special needs, eg, making
money from renting extra space. But many homeowners
would be better off renting.

I see the pros and cons to both.
Like with renting, I've seen clauses that prohibit working on your car on the premises. Understandable, and I can see many jackwads being overly messy about it and really making a proper mess of things. And even trying to be clean about things, it still leaves a mess. But for me not working on the house ever again is fine. Not being able to work on my car is cruel and unusual torture (especially to my bank accounts).
