Glad I'm not a Database person

Apparently someone (a user) had a great idea to integrate multiple databases from multiple, unassociated offices, using unassociated software....that would make their job and life sooo much easier.....they were told...no...by IT...and given some reasons.....so the user went high high up the food chain, still not in IT and pitched the idea....and the database folks...not being as mean a stubborn as I am....had a commissioner level come talk to them and now they are now looking into it... but at least the commissioner level understands the request is likely unrealistic and to expensive...this user wants it in weeks...it will take months....the user has not even considered cost...of course the user is unaware, and likely doesn't it will cost 100s of thousands...quarter million was thrown out there....and the user doesn't know about permissions needed to link databases...we don't own.... and again, the user likely doesn't care.......frankly I like my way better.......no...and here is why it is no....have a nice day....and of course this would also be followed by the inevitable...what part of no are you not understanding... but then, I am in a very different employment position than they are

How to integrate 2 different databases....
Hire data entry people to look at one database,
& enter the info into the other. They might need
some supervision to deal with incompatibilities.

It is much greater than two...it is multi[le and the databases are constructed with different incompatible software systems...and of course you completely missed the whole permissions part of the equation...we don't own them all.......you are such a typical engineer....

That's just the database example of a common occurrence. Some users are aware of their lack of knowledge and ask if something is easy to do and accept the answer. Others have earned the sobriquet "luser".

And now they are looking for financial reasons to justify saying no..... I still like my way, as gruff as it is, better

I addressed 2 databases.
But my approach works, albeit slowly,
expensively, & laden with errors.
Bears....they know nothing of databases.

My wife got what looked like a suspicious email from paypal but the headers and everything looked ok. So we called Paypal and they said the info was bogus and to forward the email to their security/phishing group which I did.

As far as I can see and I see a lot, the only way we could have received that email with all correct headers was if Paypal itself was hacked. I could have missed something, of course, but it's a reminder that if an email comes in that looks at all weird or unusual, don't trust it for an instant and call a support number not in the questionable email.
