That reminds me of a school board meeting I was at years ago. They were discussion a new computer lab.... when a older gentleman stood up and said you don't need computers in school. all you need is the 3 Rs...... Reading (W)riting and Rithmatic..... I came so DARN close to saying you might want to include SPELLING in that too if you think those all start with R.....

I've always thought that was dumb, in all ways. Only one of those begins with an R and there are other important things to learn.
Though I do wonder do all kids these days know how to type or do they still offer typing classes?

But do they still teach it? My parents can't type, we didn't have a computer (this still being when not that many people did have one) and I learned by the "hunt and peck" method on a typewriter on the rare occasions I had access to one. Then I took a typing class in high school.
But people today generally have computers at home and I assume most newer/younger parents can type. So is it still a class that's taught or did it get the boot like cursive?

my granddaughter, who is currently in the 7th grade, has been keyboarding for school since kindergarten...it's integrated into all classes...

That's my point! I no longer can prove it, because I don't understand how to, say, multiply two-digit numbers...from third grade on, I was unable to help my granddaughter with math...
