As a store cashier, I've found out that you can know things about people about what they buy and how they react to a delay or when their ATM card won't go through and other things. It's usually OK, most people are kind, others are a little impatient but are nice enough, but a few people are just, well, I can't really say but it isn't pretty. ;)

We landlords learn a lot about people just from how they behave as tenants.
I don't like the ones who....
- Call my staff "nig*er"
- Try to sell my appliances
- Rent out parking spaces belonging to other tenants
- Threaten to kill the resident managers
- P*ss in the electrician's toolbox
- Walk around naked in front of maintenance staff
There are many more things which bother me.

How about being called at 2am because there were things in the tree next door that were trying to get her on the second floor? Or the non-rent paying tenant who would also not work off the debt by painting the house. Or the one that moved out followed by two guys in dark suits and short haircuts that showed up looking for her.

My dryer is making too much noise.
My dryer makes no noise at all. On account of it still not working. On account of me dreading the idea of trying to pull the whole damn tub out in order to troubleshoot the electronics. Ugh. I really need to just rip the thing apart and see what can be done. It's already broken. It doesn't work anyway. Not like I'm going to make it not work more. Either I can fix it or I can't. If I can't, it didnt work anyway so oh well. Right?

I'm jealous! I didn't learn how to fix anything.

I on the other hand, learned how to fix things. Just not very well. So I don't even try anymore, because after a few instances of "Well, it WOULD have been easy to fix, if some idiot hadn't jimmied around with it..." it seems better to just let the experts earn their keep.

I haven't done any electronic repair for years. Use to be my job, but should put it to practical use.

Cant afford to have an "expert" repair it. And given the issue is electrical and not mechanical then I should be able to troubleshoot the issue and the cost will be my time, labor, and a few dollars for a blown component. Heck of a lot better than paying for a repair I can't afford on an appliance I'd probably spend less replacing.

Even when I can afford to have someone else fix it, I do it myself because it just gets too expensive too easily and too quickly to let someone else do. Like when the upper intake manifold gaskets on my car went bad, it would have costs hundreds, nearly a thousand if I remember correctly, to put a $30 gasket in because it would have taken them six to eight hours to do it. I did the job in four, and saved a crap ton of money.
