This silly game can go both ways.

Every corner of the political spectrum has a tiny fringe of kooks. It seems to be a popular practice to take these sorts and present them as if they somehow represent the entirely of that side. It's like pointing at Will Hayden and saying "2A rights people are child rapists!" It's a dirty and dishonest tactic.

I disagree. One political demographic has a lot of kooks, and subdivisions with large majority of kooks.

Flat earthers are more likely to be conservative these days. I suspect it was different in the past.

I think the point he's trying to make though is that when someone from one side takes a minority view and applies it to the rest of the majority on the other side, that's intellectually dishonest. Which side is actually "more crazy" than the other side is kind of irrelevant and distracts from that point.

Like, does it really matter who has a lower IQ between two people playing Rochambeau? You can point out who is dumber, but at the end of the day, they are both still playing a stupid game. Same goes for people trying to build up a straw man for their opposition. A misrepresentation is still a misrepresentation, and is built for no other reason than for thoughtless manipulation that appeals to and exploits people's emotional attachments to their chosen "side."
