It is said the sublime in your life, the essence of refinement in your life - is not complete - until you partake of the gateway into enchantment called the santoor.

The santoor is a trapezoid-shaped hammered dulcimer or string musical instrument made of walnut, with seventy-two strings. It is the national musical instrument of Iran, and is also native to Jammu and Kashmir (India). It also has Vedic Hindu roots and It dates back to ancient times, and was called Shatha Tantri Veena in ancient Sanskrit texts. A primitive ancestor of this type of instrument was used in Mesopotamia and Babylonia.

It is also the talisman and magic carpet of Sufi saints.

My understanding is, long ago the santoor was created by a Blue Peacock who lived on the Moon Planet. This Peacock used the allure of the santoor to hypnotize a Black Scorpion to dance. This Scorpian was said to be destined to sting a beautiful Apsara (angelic girl) who was a servant to Lord Indra, sent by a demonic witch who wanted to break the spirit of Indra's Lightening bolt.

But while playing the santoor, the Blue Peacock caught the attention of the Black Scorpian who allured by it's enchantment had crossed the night sky and came to the Moon. There the Scorpian came out in view from behind a rock.

Then in a state of lost bliss, the Scorpian began to dance to the music of the santoor. Each of it's eight legs moved here, and there, in a slow but methodic motion, and the stinger of the Scorpian's tail would tap, tap, tap the ground as if also tapping the santoor.

When the music of the santoor stopped, the Black Scorpian suddenly turned into a silver blue smoke, leaving a white ash on the ground.

This ash gave off an almost sweet guava smell mixed with frankincense that was so wonderful the Blue Peacock marked it's head with it like vibhuti.

The Peacock then left the Moon and flew to Kashmir with the santoor. A great Maharaja married the Santoor as his wife. This wife never kissed the Raja. She would only allure. But this allure would not end even though the Maharaja would never find satisfaction, yet could never escape the allure. When the Maharaja died, his cremated ashes smelled like perfume. Like an almost sweet guava smell mixed with frankincense.

But this is only the description of this fragrance. There is no way to describe it.

And now, one of the greatest. Watch his face. Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. She will never satisfy you. She will allure you. On and on. When you die, your ashes will smell like perfume. Well... there is no describing the fragrance. Oddly, you yourself will never smell it. Because you will be dead.

Oh well. You will have to wait for someone else to die first and then you will know the santoor. She wants to marry you. But if you take her as your bride, she will never kiss you. She will allure you. To your death itself.
