The Saudis are about to do it again...

The Emperor of Mankind

Currently the galaxy's spookiest paraplegic
The Kingdom's judiciary have sentenced to death an artist on false charges of apostasy and immoral behaviour.

Ashraf Fayadh was originally given 800 lashes and four years jail time but since he had the temerity to appeal (which was rejected), he was put up against a new judge and prosecution, without legal representation in both cases, and they plan to kill him even though he publically 'repented'.

Yet another example of wondrous morality from the oil lords of the Arabian peninsula...

Asylum: To stand at the end of a queue..

To be given a morsel of bread.

To stand!: Something your grandfather used to do.. Without knowing the reason why.

The Morsel?: You.

The homeland: A card to put in your wallet.

Money: Papers that carry images of Leaders.

The Photo: Your substitution pending your return.

And the Return: A mythological creature … from your grandmother’s tales.

End of the first lesson.

This is all I could find translated.

Well, not all places and countries of the world reach the modern age at the same time.

It does seem that the older religious traditions are more mature.
I think Islam is fundamentally different, for two reasons.
One, it says right there in the Qur'an that this is the final perfect word. It cannot be improved upon without being changed and that is forbidden.
Also, the teachings on a 7th century warlord are typically convenient for modern people who want to be tyrants. So the government often likes it just the way it is, which is a powerful motivation for conservative religious interpretation.
