The Silent Racists

Neo Deist

Th.D. & D.Div. h.c.
There are people that I label as a "silent racist." This is the person that on the outside does not show their racism sentiments, but on the inside they harbor those feelings. They put up a front for the public to see, but behind closed doors they are outspoken and cheer on the champions of extremism. Here are some examples of a Silent Racist:

1. Blacks deserve better schools, safer neighborhoods, and higher paying jobs. I just don't want them anywhere near my neighborhood, kid's school or taking my job.

2. Gays deserve to be happy just like everyone else. They should be allowed to "civil unions." However, I don't want them anywhere near me or my family, and I sure as hell don't want to explain to my kids why two grown men are kissing. A marriage is between a man and a woman.

3. Hispanics are hard workers and all, but they need to go back home and then apply for legal entry into the US, even though that could take years. Oh, and they should learn to speak English before coming here. We don't need Spanish written on everything just for them.

4. I am sure most Muslims are peaceful people. However, I get nervous every time I see someone from the Middle East and watch them to see if they are trying to ignite a bomb or something. I am all for freedom of religion, but I don't want a mosque anywhere near my neighborhood.

5. I go to church, pray to God, love Jesus, and put on my best clothes for Sunday. However, I don't like the fact that some non-whites are now attending my church. That is sacred ground. They need to find a church for their own kind.

Don't think for one second that these Silent Racists don't exist.

Like you, I don't have any love loss for these type of folks. They are basically saying "minorities deserve to be happy on terms that I get to choose." It is BS and I don't tolerate it.

You're 'missing the point', because 'racist' often means, they don't care about religion etc.
Hence, why you don't use the word incorrectly
You are missing the forest for the trees. The overarching theme/point of the OP is still valid, imo.

Oh gods, yet another argument over semantics. Whatever happened to simply inviting your whole neighborhood over for a circle jerk when you have way too much time on your hands?

Sounds like another regressive liberal boogeyman.

How about "bigot" then?
Race or bigot doesn't quite fit the narrative here. A bit self-refuting...

You're being old fashioned.
Nowadays, for <race> on forms, I put "atheist", "Libertarian" or "straight".

Told ya we had more in common than you thought! :p

Oh yeah, and space. We both LOVE astronomy. ;)

Damnit, I better be careful or you might actually start liking me.

Back on point. To @Neo Deist and your OP.
Of course I, along with most people, are aware they exist. Its part of why terms like "two-faced" and "hypocrisy" are in our language.
I think it is primarily a result of cowardice, but also an echo of self-awareness (knowing that you are probably wrong)...not being bold enough to speak your mind when you feel that you will be shot down on the spot, and not being brave enough to change yourself when you recognize that your arguements are flawed.

So we should just feel that there is racism up in the aether?

Doesn't seem very compelling enough without that small thing called facts and evidence.

Almost no one is what they say they are. Or even what they think they are.

Yeah, I'm sure that's all it's really about. Gosh, I just knew those 300 or so reported incidents of vandalism and assault since the election were all and everyone of them fabrications! You're my hero for unmasking the truth. Will you have my love child?
