The tale of the scary Christ

A sculpture of Christ on the cross has had to be removed from a Church as it has been scaring people away. Before I pass on the link think about the pictures from the liberation of ww2 prison camps and you'' understand.

SCARY CHRIST SCULPTURE

What a bunch of wimps. Sheesh. The church I used to attend loved spilling out all that gore...especially on Easter....right down the center aisle.

I think its hard for people to see an innocent man suffer so much

I think its even harder for their hearts to accept he did it for their sakes

he endured for others, this idea of- "why did Christ do it for me- what was in it for him"- kind of mentality leaves most confused and refusing to accept their own sins

and most of all, they are looking at the judgment they deserve for the life they've lived and they don't want to accept it

It does look kind of scary. I don't know why but it reminds of about 10 years ago while I was on a doctor's visit and some anti-abortion group were outside showing pictures of aborted babies. You really can't help people by scaring them. ;)

Actually, crucifixions were not usually carrried out in the manner desribed in the Xian bible, another reason I believe Jesus was a fictional character.

Or the more likely case is that it's just an ugly and grotesque eyesore that people are sick of looking at rather than some neurosis involving a bizarre torture kink/guilt trip.

Or by making them hungry.

Crucifixions were carried out in a range of different ways and the way Jesus seems to have been crucified was by no means unusual. Few people imagine that Jesus was a fictional character.

Imagination has nothing to do with it, the account of the passion story, or the cruifixion of Christ, could not have occurred as written in the gospels, given the traditions in place back then. Simply could not have happened.

Christo Redeemer is to me what the Christian Cross represents, because it is Jesus with his arms outstretched to the world. Not a man dead on a cross.

To me, Jesus while he was alive is the most important part of his story, not his death.

Besides, I can come up with an easy answer to "what was in it for him?" Glory, world fame...
