The Unknown

I have heard that most of us are afraid of the unknown. However, today when answering another topic I became aware that the Unknown may be what comforts us. If God fills the gaps while we are waiting for knowledge, God then is the Unknown. While we are waiting we are filled with hope and faith. Is the Unknown something to be feared or is it what comforts us?

I personally don't agree. I think when we take God back out of the gaps, and look at the space that is left and wonder "what goes there?", THEN we are experiencing the Unknown. God is placed in those gaps sometimes because we either can't think of anything else (yet) to put there, or because we are afraid of the unknown and want to fill it with something "familiar" (God is familiar to each human being that believes in it... even if God is incomprehensible and we acknowledge that It is incomprehensible.... it is really strange...)

I used to think I was afraid of the unknown, but have grown to learn that the unknown holds hope and promise. I think what I used to be afraid of was finding out something good about myself.
