The Wicker Man (1973)

Anybody seen this movie?
The original is from 1973 but a remake exists with Nicholas Cage.

Plot: Seargant Howie, a devout Christian, comes to Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a girl.
Strangely he receives little help from the islanders, not even from the girl's mother.
By and by Howie finds out that the people of Summerisle seem to follow a strange religious cult and suspects that this may be the reason for the girl's disppearance...

There are some very good songs in the movie, here are two:

The original was good, but the critics panned the remake, so I gave it a pass.

I have seen both but prefer the original.
I stumbled upon the original movie last week, on tv.
Ordered the DVD now from Amazon.
From the remake I have only seen some trailers on youtube, but I don't think it is as good as the original.

The original is a suspenseful masterpiece and I try to watch it around Halloween every year. The remake is horrible.

I think partly because that Nicholas Cage isn't a very good actor.

For me, the biggest strike was not having Christopher Lee in it. Knowing the history of him and the original film makes it borderline insulting that he was not brought on board. Then again, maybe he was asked and wisely knew it would be a disaster of a project. That movie goes wrong in so many ways. It is a great example of why remakes make people mad.

I watched the remakes of "Total Recall" and "Carrie" recently, neither were a patch on the original versions.

Out of curiosity I took a look at the trailer for Cage's Wicker Man.

I've seen them both, the original first. The second was ruined a little for me because I knew what was going to happen. Both of them entertained me.

I like where Nicholas Cage is dressed as a bear and punches a lady in the face. But I also like the 1973 cop telling the classroom full of children "Liars. You are despicable little liars!". I think both movies have their great moments.

I think that is the only scene I like in the movie. Not even sure I really like it; but, it was the one moment that made me sit forward and get a little more engaged in the film.
