If everything was designed by a supreme intelligent being with a purpose in mind, what were the intentions behind cannabis, salvia, ayahuasca, psilocybin mushrooms, etc?
Just curious what people think.

Salvia - What species are you refering to?

Ayahuasca - To purge the body of parasites

Psilocybin Mushrooms -
From Wikipedia said:
There have been calls for medical investigation of the use of synthetic and mushroom-derived psilocybin for the development of improved treatments of various mental conditions, including chronic cluster headaches, following numerous anecdotal reports of benefits. There are also several accounts of psilocybin mushrooms sending both obsessive-compulsive disorders ("OCD") and OCD-related clinical depression (both being widespread and debilitating mental health conditions) into complete remission immediately and for months at a time, compared to current medications which often have both limited efficacy and frequent undesirable side-effects.

Cannibas - A cancer patient or those suffering with glaucoma might be able to answer that.

Assuming that there is a god, I'd say he would have made them as another one of his stupid tests... He's always trying to get his little humans to do something stupid so he can send them to hell, and this is just another example.

What God sends a person to hell for recreational drug use?

Given that evolution of plants occurred, these plants were designed by the process of evolutionary change, not a supposed god, thus the plants main "purpose" was for survival.

Just FYI: not all theists believe that "everything was designed by a supreme intelligent being with a purpose in mind".... some questions are better left to scientists.

We humans found a use in those drugs to feel better. Just like we found uses in fire and water. This does not mean that that use was the original purpose. I think that if there is a God, the original purpose was not to dry it, put it in sigarettes and burn it, followed by inhaling. (Marihuana as example)

Valid, perhaps, for 3-year old who didn't want to bring up the so-called problem of evil directly which has been done many time over in RF. Which is why most of the responding post from the same choir.
Yes, and ofcourse your insulting posts aren't getting boring allready. :clap

Dang, I must have missed the memo about this.

I think the basic idea of a supreme being is that we suck at fully understanding why they do what they do... sometimes we even miss that they even did it, or we don't comprehend how they did it. We may not always understand the motive of an action, but that does not deny the action.

there is one verse about drugs in Qur'an. can't recall which one.

it says they can do 'good' but the bad they'd do is more than good they could offer. therefor they are dangerous.

i believe everything is an object for the same. a test. there are many things within your power to reach out. you have free will. so here you go!

In my view, almost everything has some kind of purpose, whether we are wise to it or not. I cannot profess to have much knowledge about the drugs you mentioned, but I would be fairly sure there is some context within which they can be used for benefit.

But as for general use, I think .lava hits the nail on the head when he says that in general, any good that can be gained by using such drugs recreationally is outweighed by the potential for harm.
