The Earth Has Been Hit by 144 Major Earthquakes in the Last Week And No One Is Talking About It

Imagine! 144 major earthquakes in one week and no news network said boo about it.

"The phenomenon is occurring along a horseshoe-shaped active seismic belt called the ‘Ring of Fire’, an area that runs around the edge of the Pacific basin. The area is well known for a large number of volcanoes and earthquake epicenters, due to the fact that it runs along the boundaries of the planet’s tectonic plates. In fact, most of the world’s strongest earthquakes, and 75% of the world’s volcanoes are all located along these fault lines.

In order to be considered a ‘major earthquake’, that means that each of these earthquakes exceeds a magnitude of 4.5. These aren’t minor tremors. These are major events with the potential to dramatically alter the lives of those that they impact."

For those of us interested in Bible prophesy, these quakes may be significant. (Matthew 24:7)

There are always rumours of wars and earthquakes though. I suspect earthquake was also a metaphor for a paradigm shift or a new way of thinking. That’s what happened around the Advent of Christ and also what’s been happening for humanity over the last few centuries, especially since the nineteenth century where these processes and changes (earthquakes) have become more pronounced.

That’s not to say there are not physical signs as well but Christ encouraged us to appreciate the signs of the times we are living in now.

I live in California - and we've seen some insane heat waves here. Including a vortex of fire!

All these extreme weather phenomenon combined with how the church is blindly falling in line behind Trump definitely has to make one pause and question if this isn't the end.

Matthew 16:1-4

Matthew 16:1-4 is the Pharisees asking for a sign from Jesus, but he didn't do 'tricks' for entertainment.....he told them that the only sign they would see was him in the heart of the grave for three days, just as Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days.

The times we are living in are recorded in scripture for our benefit. Jesus told us to look for the "sign of his presence" (parousia) not of his "coming". (Matthew 24:3-14) These are two separate events.
He has been "present" since the "last days" began, guiding his disciples in a global preaching work that he said had to be carried out before the "end" of the present world system.

Luke's account adds detail...."Then [Jesus] said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another food shortages and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs."

144 "great earthquakes" in one week has never happened before. Couple that will diminishing food supplies because of natural disasters...floods, fires, wars, hurricanes etc, and you can see that mother Earth and her inhabitants are in real trouble.
Diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes are all preventable, but they are taking an enormous toll on human life and suffering all over the globe. Communicable diseases like Ebola and monster strains of influenza also wipe out huge swathes of the population in some countries. AIDS does too.

I have no doubt that the last days are reducing down to the last minutes of this present system of things.

And people still don't believe in climate change, when it's telling us that these aren't normal. Too bad people won't wake up until they kill themselves along with the environment.

Sorry, but this looks like hype from an endtimes publication.

We definitely shouldn't get too caught up in looking for signs of the end. They are good and interesting to keep in mind - but far too many have been made the fool, or worse, because they started asserting that they knew when the end is. Even Jesus didn't claim to know when the end would be.

Jesus said "no one knows the day or the hour"....but he didn't give us the sign for no reason. He told us to "keep on the watch" so we cannot be complacent either. (Matthew 24:36-39; Matthew 24:42-44)

I agree - keeping watch is good, and interesting :) Just be careful, keeping in mind the numerous errors of others who insisted they had it figured out.

I don’t think so. Maybe in a few days one of us can tell the other I told you so lol

Interestingly your faith and mind arose out of the 19th century during a time of intense Messianic expectations.

One man William Miller even predicted the year as 1844, the year the Baha’i Faith began.

Many of his followers were so convinced they gave away their possessions. When their aspirations failed to materialise it was called the great disappointment.

I suppose we all have our beliefs about what the end times look like.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt as say you’ve been conned by tabloid drama and a flashy video.

First, a Major earthquake is one with a magnitude of 7 to 7.9. Earthquakes of magnitude 4 to 4.9 are called Light. Secondly, given that there are around 10,000 to 15,000 earthquakes in the 4-4.9 range every year, 144 in a week isn’t unusual, nor is them gaining little media attention, especially when they don’t impact populated areas. Due to their nature, earthquake activity does run in peaks and such a peak appears to be occurring at the moment. It could be leading to even bigger quakes or we could be past the worst but either way, it isn’t especially out of the ordinary in the wider scale.

I have pretty much zero interest in "prophecy", Biblical or otherwise.

We have kept on the watch since the last days began.....the coming of the Kingdom has been foremost in the minds of Christ's disciples for almost 2,000 years now. (Acts 1:6) The symbol of our organization is a watchtower....and for a very good reason. Watchmen were often stationed on the city walls and towers to observe those approaching before they got close. They acted as guards or a sentries. Figuratively, prophets served as watchmen to the nation of Israel, warning of impending destruction.

To his prophet Ezekiel Jehovah said....“Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman to the house of Israel; and when you hear a word from my mouth, you must warn them from me. 18 When I say to someone wicked, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him, and you fail to speak in order to warn the wicked one to turn from his wicked course so that he may stay alive, he will die for his error because he is wicked, but I will ask his blood back from you. 19 But if you warn someone wicked and he does not turn back from his wickedness and from his wicked course, he will die for his error, but you will certainly save your own life. 20 But when someone righteous abandons his righteousness and does what is wrong, I will put a stumbling block before him and he will die. If you did not warn him, he will die for his sin and his righteous acts will not be remembered, but I will ask his blood back from you. 21 But if you have warned the righteous one not to sin, and he does not sin, he will surely keep alive because he was warned, and you will have saved your own life.” (Ezekiel 3:17-21)

It is a serious assignment, so even if a false alarm is sounded, once the coast is clear, it's back to business as usual. We cannot afford to be complacent because Jesus said.....“You do not know on what day your Lord is coming.”
If the watchman waited too long to sound the alarm, the danger may well have overtaken the city before anyone was warned. The watchman has always done his job and made no apologies for any false alarms....it kept us on our toes. We are vigilant.

Hello. While this is often the source of much suffering, often among the most vulnerable people (not to mention the damage to infrastructure), many researchers are coming to realize how important plate techtonics may be in making a planet habitable:

I am weary, though, of reading too much into natural events in regards to prophesy.

Is this frequency considered particularly unexpected or outside the normal range?

Its not just the earthquakes but the widespread volcanic activity and wildfires...floods and landslides. It seems every time you turn on the NEWS there is another disaster somewhere....what is happening in Hawaii is frightening. Mother Earth is complaining and she has every right to.

I understand. Its not everyone's cup of tea.

Don't be complacent, but, to borrow a phrase, "one swallow does not bring the spring". How many times have you seen similar claims to this one? I know I've seen the "so many earthquakes! The Endtimes/Rapture/Judgement Day is upon us!" thing claimed at least 3 times before that I personally can remember. Then there's all the other stuff. Blood Moons, feasts of Trumpets, Solar Eclipses, Mayan Calendar prophecies, all intermixed with vague and arbitrary numerology of a purely apophenic nature. Honestly, there's someone claiming, with apparent total sincerity, "The End is Nigh, here's proof!" every six months or so, and similar predictions have been being made throughout recorded history. All have been wrong.

Sure, the World will end one day, one way or another, but what does any of this Apocalyptic doomsaying matter anyway? As good Christians, aren't we meant to live the best lives we can all the time, whether the World is ending or not?

But is any of this particularly unusual? Or is it possible that the average number of disasters is pretty much what it's always been, and now they're just better reported?
