Thinking of swearing an oath

So i'm thinking about swearing an oath to the goddess Artemis. Swearing to remain a virgin and never marry in exchange for protection knowledge and being in her service. I'm not sure tho..."But Ray" I can hear you saying...."Why not? You're asexual right? You don't experience sexual attraction.Should be an easy oath to keep." Well I'm not aromantic. What if I fall in love and want to get marry? What are the consequences of breaking such an oath? What if Aphrodite gets ticked since according to some myths she has a rivalry with Artemis? What then? So I'm still thinking on it. But this makes me curious.Has anyone here made any religious oaths? If so how did it go?

I often swear an oath to the goddess Anoia. The oath goes something like this (swearing removed for RF)

"How can it close on the damned thing but not open with it? Who bought this? Do we ever use it?"

Some facts about Anoia, the goddess of things that get stuck in drawers. She also finds objects that roll under other objects and things stuck in sofa cushions, she is considering handling stuck zippers. She eats corkscrews.

But back to your OP. It's a big step to take that, as you say, may have personal consequences should you make a serious commitment and then decide to marry.

1. Why not swear an oath to yourself? How is it different?
2. How does one know whether Artemis has accepted the oath or not?
1.I want to be in her service. The oath would be made to her so that she'll take me under her wing and her protection.

2.The gods communicate in a variety of ways....signs, dreams, meditation... if she wants me to know I will

Yes, on oaths, and fine. But, the first criteria for an oath is deciding whether it is within your ability to keep. Asexuality is nebulous enough to include people who are asexual by choice, those who are not, and those whom just haven't found the right person. I have no idea which of those applies to you from the brevity of your post, but it seems even you have some doubts to your commitment on this.

Secondly, why would you make such an oath in the first place? Why would a goddess care who you are planning to shag?

I believe I could keep it.

Artemis has been known to protect maidens. Taking such an oath would show commitment to her. There are a few more reasons why I would make such an oath but I'll keep them to myself.

Having a special, higher standard of honesty for special occasions implies that I'm somewhat less honest (i.e. somewhat dishonest) the rest of the time.
that's why a lot of quakers don't make oaths...which is one of the reasons I might not do so

I was given to god as an infant, an oath made I would be Christian. I made oaths to god, to serve and honor him, perform the rituals that please him, and willingly give my life to him.
I went back on it all, and about 20 yeard ago left it all behind, and life keeps getting better for me.

Yeah... the fact that the Bible says not to swear oaths also factors into it for many of them.
Funny how it says that, but yet they have this (Protestants, not Quakers):

They even have a salute/stance for it, but I'm having trouble finding a picture of it.
