Have you ever been to an anime convention. if you have, im so sorry for offending you.

Now i like anime to some extent (sephiroth avatar). but i dont watch these childish anime shows which try to set up a fantasy in a kids mind of being some kind of super hero with pink hair. I watch more of the darker more MAish kind of animje like ghost in the shell, or the boondocks, etc.

Anyway, ever been to an anime con? this is when you take anime to an extreme. i actually concider this by biblical terms, at some points, sinful, because it is a a sin of sloth to devote ones life to something like this instead of serching for love or truth etc.. (Not saying they all do that) just look at these pics of anime conventions:

i love anime. i think that it is great entertainment, nothing more. in fact i hope to publish my comic soon. I think that it is okay to dress like characters for fun but if they do it randomly... some thing... is terribly wrong

I saw a couple pics. I believe there should be moderation in all things, but I can't take the jump and say whether this behavior is sinful or not. These anime fans actually reminded me of Trekkies. I think the following may be comparable (when Trek was at its pinnacle).

Are the people in costume personally attacking you? Are they insulting your beliefs? Are they calling what you do in your free time 'sad'?

Right now, I'm liking them better and better.

No better or worse than Ren Fair Folk or LARPers, and I have no quarrel with them. Perhaps a bit silly, but they are just having fun. If they are walking around Chicago in Winter dressed like Motoko, I would suggest there is a problem, but as it stands... it's just harmless cosplay.

Don't worry, I'll have fun being a sinning heathen come August. :D Yay Anime Weekend Atlanta! It's become a tradition of me and my friends to go every year. While the drunken shirt ninjas and yaoi/yuri rooms late at night are a bit questionable, just about all that goes on during the day is nothing but fun.

I think a lot of what appeals to people is anime is exactly what you say it detracts from: Truth, love, and all those other mushy virtues. Look at just about any storyline and you'll see themes of that nature right from the get-go.

I don't believe this is any more sad then a person's utter devotion to Christ (which I don't think it sad).

However, I believe all things should be in moderation, and if one starts to ignore their family life, work repsonbilities, and personal hygiene; then something needs to be done. Once a person starts ignoring basic needs and the basic needs of others, then it needs to stop. Whether this person is involved in religion, anime, Star Trek or anything else.

wow i didnt know it was so offensive. people on this forum are to serious and sensitive. it was supposed to be a joke

A joke? Then make it seem like a joke. Put little smiley faces after what you say. I doubt this was meant to be a joke......

We are too serious? Only when you insult us.

I think he's posting from a restricted domain ;) Anime... meh. I like watching it, and costume parties are fun... but I like going as the Mad Hatter, not some pefect tragic hero type ;)

I enjoy dressing like a vampire, mainly on Halloween, and a few other occasions. I would dress as Arucard, if my hair was a few inches longer, and I was about 100 pounds lighter and a thinner frame.

anime used to be the only cartoons i watched, but DBZ (dragon ball z for those not in the know :D) kind of killed it for me. Just a bunch of wacky people with huge yellow hair going around looking for crystal balls and fighting people in constipation battles. Seriously, their power was derived from massive constipation, just a lot of vein popping and screaming, then a huge energy ball shot from their hands at the opponent, that usually ends up doing absolutley nothing. God that show was bad. There are some good shows, like Samurai... Samurai X or, Rouroni Kenshin that was it! I loved that show, but then they cancelled it on cartoon network, and my favorite anime show was gone. ah well.

But back on subject, anime is alright in moderation, but it gets a little creepy when women dress up as half-naked cat hybrids with pink hair.devoting your life to anime is sad.

Better to devote oneself to just star wars, i guess.
