This "We Are Gods" Thing...

Lehnah

Master of the Mystic Arts
So the basic theory of LHPers is that through the betterment of the self we can become "God like." I've been wondering about this lately musing on exactly what "god like" means and if there can be different levels of "god-ness" or even if this "god-ness" can translate into different things for different people of the LHP.

For example, one LHPer feels that by doing whatever it is s/he is doing it will help them become an actual GOD - all powerful, someone to be worshiped and bowed down to, classic super-villain God delusion. That's the extreme.

But then another LHPer feel that by just begin true to one's self and kind to others they will achieve a different level of "god-ness" as they make the world a better place. They may not be remembered, they may not be worshiped, but they are bettering themselves by helping others and this makes them happy. This is their "god-ness".

A third person wishes to be a great artist. They push themselves as hard as they can, they work and work to reach their goal. They succeed and are known as a great artist. This is their "god-ness"

A fourth also wants to be an artist and pushes themselves as the third person did. However, they do not reach the third's level of success but still are happy because they can honestly say they have it their all. This is the fourth's "god-ness."

I apologist if I've not explained this very eloquently, I hope my points come across without too much confusion, but I'm wondering if the above examples of what one persons idea of "god-ness" (or "bettering themselves", "self betterment" or whatever you) constitutes LHP more or less than any other.

Personally I don't believe I'll ever be an actual God as person one does, but I do feel that if I truly strive and try to better myself via the paths I feel matter than I'll archive some sort of personal high-point, my "god-ness".

So what do you guys think? Is LHP actually about being a REAL ("real" in the metaphysical sense) God or just achieving your own kind of "god-ness"?

That sounds interesting, in an evil overlord ruling the world sort of way. Can someone tell me a bit more about this?

When we define god, we define our own idea of a perfect being. When we emulate god we seek to express that ideal of perfection through ourselves. Through this process we can become the best that we can imagine. Or at least better than we are in our own eyes. A lot of people would consider this a worthy course of behavior.

The 4 different people have 4 different definitions of what it means to be a God. I relate to 3 and 4, God-ness is what you make of it. If you want to be worshipped and remembered, by all means go for it. One thing i see wrong with this is trying to negate arrogance which is often a common factor in focusing on ones self rather than an external god.

Some people perceive their own gods as being quite arrogant, as some people have been at pains to point out. They never said it like this, but it sometimes comes across like that.

Yeh agreed. In LHP though, self righteousness and slef empowerment are very much one thing. I try to avoid being self righteous whilst still attempting to do whats best for myself. Finding a balance is the key, much like everything else in life.

I stated this before because many LHP's i know are terribly arrogant. They think their rebelious nature deserves them a medal or something. Its a common trend for the youngins, sooner or later though they all get over themselves and open their eyes.

I don't think arrogance is necessarily a bad thing. If someone wants to be the best they can be at something and have the world recognize them as such, then sure, there is some arrogance in that but if their arrogance does not extend beyond them pushing themselves and they are still civil to others is that really a bad kind of arrogance?

I put the artist bit in my first post because that's what I want to be; an artist, and yes I want to have people see my work and enjoy it. I put so much effort into my art I would like people to say, "Dr. S is pretty talented. I really like his stuff." I admit there is a level or arrogance there because I want to be recognized, but I'm not going around telling everyone how damn cool I am. Truthfully, I'm to busy trying to show I'm worthy of people's time by constantly pushing myself to become better.

I've never wished to be an all-powerful God figure though, and I felt that perhaps that went against LHP, but I see from peoples posts that it doesn't.

That sounds interesting, in an evil overlord ruling the world sort of way
Ha, I didn't mean really to suggest some LHPers are evil, I just used the example of a supervillain as they are very often trying to become God-like figures.

Sorry, I'm not following you, Rojse

I agree a whole bunch might is not always right as one who has traveled some sooner or later one eyes are indeed opened to a great many things. Arrogance is always a pit fall sooner or later you trip. One is one's own God in this world outcomes are caused by one's own actions.

It is so much about REALizing what you have realized.

It's about always in-Sourcing first.
Then out-source with flair and great personal vision!

We are ALL gods. So just how does this make me any greater than you? ;)

Anything that keeps you from Self BEcoming...
is "un'becoming". Not least of which is some over inflated ego.
(just as un'becoming as the "I am but a worm" sin-drome) :p

You wanna be an over inflated balloon? a worm?
Or something REALLY great!

Greetings

I have read some of what you wrote on this section of the forum food for thought.

The Eternal Parent, wrapped in invisible robes slumbered.
Time was not, for it lay asleep in the infinite bosom of duration.
Space was not, for there was np place or point.
Darkness alone filled the Boundless All.

And the Darkness was One

Alone, the One Form of being stretched boundless, infinite, causeless, in dreamless sleep. And life pulsated unconscious, throughout throughout that all-presence.

The great wheel was not yet. The Dark Forms and the Luminous Forms, were not yet. The Forms that come from No-Form rested in the bliss of eternal non-being.

And the Darkness was One.

A vibration thrills Darkness, expanding within and without, touching the whole Universe which was now an embryo in Darkness.

And the Cosmos was born from the Web of Darkness, like woven fabric of many colors and tones. And yet the cloth was woven prefectly, no color dominated, yet none were the same; no tones were the same, yet all were harmomious; all blended in a variegated ever changing cloth, whose capacity forchange was proof of the sorcery of life.

And the Darkness was one!!

Doctrine in Socerey ,Words do have power

Your words do have meaning

Have you ever wondered at the size of the astral world compared to our own. If so you are in every way a God. To me at least.

I'm not suggesting that any LHPers are evil at all, merely meant that I was interested in the idea in this regard.

Hmmm. Me too.
Not that my opinion counts for much, but from what I know about LHP, RHP and LDS, LDS is very much an Right Hand Path.

RHP, for me, is about becoming one with, or alongside divinity. Practitioners of the RHP tend to believe in God and worship it or aspects or it. They usually have a sacred text which is the word of God or has some connection to their God having dictated it, and this usually contains rules and guidelines which RHPers use to structure their life and morality.

So, from what I know about Mormonism, it's a RHP religion.
There's no real set definition for LHP or RHP, but if the idea of chronic narcissism and nihilism turn you off, you're not ready for the LHP.

If you believe in a deity, and worship that deity, or have some form of hierarchy whereby the deity is above you in some way then you are a follower of the RHP.

Unless, of course, somebody would like to tell me otherwise?

Just my $0.02.

The left-handed path is an interesting concept, and a very workable model.

On the note of arrogance, however...

I think what you're thinking of when using 'arrogance' in a positive connotation is actually 'confidence'. One should always display confidence in oneself. It's the only way to convince yourself, let alone others, that you are on the right path.

But 'arrogance' goes off the presumption that you are as good as you can be - or at least better than all those around you. No matter what one's image of 'god', I don't think one ever truly obtains it. There are buddhist monks who keep their minds alive for weeks after their body dies, and yet they would never claim to have completely 'transcended'. They know there is still more.

Whichever path you chose - one of the 8-fold paths, the right or the left, the idea is to keep bettering oneself. Arrogance gives credence to the view that there is no more bettering that you need do.

Well, I was actually being kind of sarcastic. It's just that the LDS believe we can become like God. Most Christians have a stroke when we say that, so the title of this thread actually did catch the attention of some of the LDS.
