Thought crimes

Are we really guilty for what we think about even if we would never, under any circumstances, follow through with our thoughts?

If thought crimes were actually crimes, everyone's going to burn. It's foolish if you ask me. How do you police it? By self-policing? Not much of a rule if the only way to enforce it is through self-policing. Don't believe any of it.

No, and that's my biggest gripe with radical divine command (thou shalt not covet). B.S. If coveting is a sin, we're all going to hell because humans can't help coveting. It's a necessary human mental capacity.

Supposedly Jesus did not covet

Well, they make a lot of claims that I don't buy, and that's one of them. He asked his father whether there was any way to avoid the crucifixion, didn't he? Seems to me thinking about getting out of the allegedly most important event in history between god and humanity should qualify as thought crime.

Nothing wrong with bad thoughts. Sometimes picturing the gruesome demise of the person in front of you is the only way to keep smiling as they talk to you.

But if a thought prevents you from killing someone, can it really be described as "bad"? It's like the old paradox about setting out to fail. If you suceed, which did you accomplish?

To me the terms "good" and "bad" are relative terms. What I deem as good may not be good in your eyes and vice versa. I think I see what you are saying though.
