Three days or four?

Forgive me if this is old hat but I just came across this and wanted to get some opinions. I joined this forum to post this question...

Everyone knows that Jesus was prophesied which is a cornerstone of the Christian faith.

My question is... is the prophesy 3 days or 4? The Bible says on the 3rd day he rose, right? But in the Bible it also says He will be in the tomb for 3 days AND nights. Which means he should rise on the 4th day.

I look forward to your opinions. If this has already been covered, please direct me to the correct thread. Thanks.

just a thought..
1 day and 1 night forms 24 hours. e.g. If you start at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, 24 hours later means still 3 o 'clock.
I take it that after 24 hours, you are in your first day. (as in, you've had 1 full day by now)

2 days and 2 nights is 48 hours. 24 hours more and so, the next day. (2nd day)
3 day and 3 nights is 72 hours. 24 hours more than the 2nd day and again, the next day. (3rd day)

So after 3 days and 3 nights, you're in your third day.
