So, technically I am a fan of Terry Gilliam. I find something to like in all his films. but today was the first time I saw Tideland (2005). and I was pretty much struggling with it all the way through. the film was a long unpleasant viewing, lasting until the end of it. I understand that in part this is the purpose as matching the story line, but it didn't have any of the spark his other films have, which are either adventurous or dystopian or just original and mischievous in general.
for those who saw it, I understand that the story line takes you on the unfortunate experience of a young girl, I also understand it is based on a book.
but I looked at some of the reviews which hailed it, and the movie itself. and I kept thinking 'I don't see it'.
any other redeeming opinions of the movie? how does it compare for you other films by Gilliam?
