Because, to me, I seem believable,
Whereas your beliefs seem a little far fetched!

Due to the speed of light, you can only observe the past. Even events you observe across the room occurred a few nanoseconds in the past. Using a telescope, you can observe the deep past in distant star systems and distant galaxies. However, physically manipulating the past seems a bit out of our reach.

Three questions:-
1. The universe is so vast, with so many planets, that planets are a dime a dozen. So how do I know that everything I see/hear on this planet isn’t a setup to wind me up? Couldn’t an 80 year ‘life time’ in eternity be a practical joke?
2. At the moment manipulating the past many be out of our reach, but I’m thinking of future possibilities.....a billion years from now. I hope time travel will be possible, and it’s a real possibility isn’t it?
3. What would you do given an 80 year lifetime....would you try and design your way into the afterlife, or would you rely on a 2000 year old scroll?

If you start to doubt reality, seek help.

Given enough energy you could "travel" into the future. All you have to do is accelerate a spaceship near the speed of light, travel around a bit, slow back down, and then return back to Earth. Since you were travelling near the speed of light your clock would have been moving much slower than the clocks on Earth so a lot more time would pass on Earth while you were travelling.

I am more interested in the lifetime I am guaranteed, namely this lifetime.

To find some way out of here.

It’s science’s destiny to find a way out of here if at all possible.

Things don't always work as in science. If there is a way to predict the stock market, some people who know it might not report it to the scientific community; why would they? Same with time travel. They might even be required to time travel anonymously to not screw up the time they return to.

I think there is artificial time travel where, say for instance, an Alien race puts you to sleep, destroys the earth under your feet, extrapolates to the past or future and recreates that earth, then wakes you up.

As for real time travel, if you know the future you can control it. What will blow your mind is that if there will be a clone of yourself in the future, you can alter his/her life.
