Why are they all so crap now?? Mum has one that's been going for years but modern ones give out in weeks. It just took me about 5 minutes to half-open a Fray Bentos pie, and the lid is still half attached. I've put it in like that.

Wtf is the problem??

Wish I had the money.
I didn't mean literally antique like one from Victorian times but it may be worth looking to see if there are any old ones on there if new ones are a problem?

Fray Bentos pie
I had to google that.

So they sell meat pies (not sure if they call them pot pies there, but that's what they're called on this side of the pond) in tins? Do they keep at room temperature until opened or are they refrigerated?

Either. You open immediately before you cook. Room temperature works fine. They're not bad for the price and I really enjoy them. They're a British classic.

@Rival

You have inspired me to try Frey Bentos pies!

I have seen them in supermarkets but never ventured to ever try one

I can relate. I just had to buy a new one because mine decided to stop working for some reason. I just got a cheap, no frills one.

I had problems with the cheap ones so bought a good one. Then i had an old one given by a neighbour. Then hubby bough an electric one. All are good but stored in a cupboard, I've not used them for ages, tins come with ring pulls.

Aldi tins are cheap but don't have pulls.
