To Ignore

I never ignored anyone on any forums and chat rooms I been to in the past ten years or so. I value peoples' opinions even if I dont understand them, rephrase posts and words for my understanding, or forget and repost things. Its life we get opposition for our faults and absent minded actions etc.

Thats okay. Why do you use the ignore button? Is it for healthy reasons or just you get annoyed and dont want to read that X person's post anymore?

I see a therapist and we are talking whats best for my spiritual health. Like my friend who disrespects my faith. We wondered why I should be friends with her; but, I never divorced friendships before. I never told a friend I dont want to talk to them. I have friends in dangerious situations and have to draw lines for my safety. I never forget. I never ignore.

I like RF but Im thinking of ignoring a few people. Not because I dont like them. I never hated anyond in my life (belief it or not). Thats just me. I took a break but I like talking about religion.

Have you guys ignored people because of your Spiritual health?

Im thinking of doing that. I really hate that but then to get better, I have to draw some boundries. I confronted these people (more than two) and told them to respect my opinions or dont reply. What makes people reply to threads they cant relate to and dont say something productive?

Anyway, do you think thats good idea? Maybe not go on RF? Buts not everyone.

Cliff notes.

I dont ignore. I dont divorce friends. I read all post. I value all opinions. I rephrase for better understanding. I have legitimate memory issues.

Should I use the ignore?
Have you used it?
Was it for your spiritual health? Annoyance?

I value people just trying to draw the line to keep my mental health in check is hard.

Thanks for reading this. Not asking for pity.

I never ignore anyone, but I have no problem compartmentalizing people's opinions as basically irrelevant to me in any meaningful way, unless it's an opinion I can respect.

I think some people are better off using the ignore feature - particularly those who feel real and actual emotional/psychological distress from reading what somebody posted online.

At the end of the day, if people can bother you, you're probably better off using the ignore (or avoiding the internet altogether) - if you can easily brush off annoying or offensive people, then why bother with the ignore feature? These are often the people who provide the biggest (unintentional) laughs as well.

I have no one on ignore but there are lots of threads and posts that I disregard. I think I waste enough time (not reading but sitting here) just reading all the posts in threads that I want to share in. Those posts I read and I don't ignore any totally. Some I start reading and then think, "enough!" and I ignore the rest of the post but that is unusual for me.

One person on the forum is so very point-blank frank and he only had mean things to say to me so I put him on ignore for a few minutes. But I removed the order right away.
The other one I put on ignore and kept him there because he had an annoying moving BIG image attached to every post. I had to put him on ignore.

Never use ignore, other than for blocking malicious nasty trolls....

Everything that comes into our paths, is there for some reason, if you ignore it, then you'll miss out on what can be learned from it....

Often the hardest paths, teach us the most valuable lessons.

Some of my thoughts on it...

If folks have a hard time stomaching a person's posts or refraining from insult exchanges because of strong dislike or what have you, I think it is a very, very good idea that they use the ignore feature. It would definitely go a long way towards members self-managing in an adult fashion...

That we owe everybody our ears and attention isn't something I believe, personally. I've seen some hold on to that all the way up to the point they stop participation altogether - basically putting every member on ignore lol

As far as spiritual health, it has to be a personal decision looking at all the factors - stress can help strengthen psychological and spiritual muscle but can also do many nasty things. It heavily comes down to your purpose for being here, what you are expecting to get from it, how much time you have to be here, etc.

I sometimes use it. It's actually quite good. Don't think I've got anyone currently ignored though.

Only for people who never say anything interesting and make countless inane replies to your posts and are unable to engage in any kind of discussion as they never actually read your replies properly anyway. You don't miss anything, and it simply removes the urge to engage them in 'debate'. Even then, I sometimes 'unignore' them if I'm a bit bored.

You sometimes end up with these gaps in threads, and can quite often identify which poster it is even though you can't see their posts.

I used to not ignore anyone as a matter of principle, but it can actually improve your experience (and probably other people's too) if you ignore the right people.

I notice in person I already have trouble with controling emotions. My psychiatrist said with seizures, I dont have a healthy brain that handles emotions/stress as easily as others. Which makes sensee cause the surgery was from the temporal love controling emotions. (Interesting enough, spiritual experiences to like OBE).

I cant control who I am around when Im out the house but I can when Im on RF. Its an addictive forum. I have to think about it some. Some post I cant tell the intent because of no tone of voice just going of previous experiences. Others are point blank. (Thinking kf a few years ago.) But we came to mutual understanding (well, for him tolerance).

Something to reflect on.

More of ignoring people who are disrespectful continuously after explanation. More of blunt sarcasm rather than reflective opinion or constructive debate. Completely different than the context you using. If that he the case, why go on RF

Thats true.

You sometimes end up with these gaps in threads, and can quite often identify which poster it is even though you can't see their posts.

I actually didnt think of that. I only really would ignore one or two people. I havent seen one come on the boards in awhile. The other always engage in my thread to argue rather than constructive debates. Especially once in a DIR. Got in trouble for another persons error. (And so forth). So its a judgement call.

Some people I just get annoyed like if you have nothing good to say, dont say anything.

I dont know.

This is mostly what I get. Though, I write long posts and only a few read them all; so, I guess its situational too.

That would be interesting question for people whom used ignore list :
Imagine that you ignore someone who disrespectful ...etc , then suddenlly someone you like ,click like it's reply !!

Do you ignore the person(s) whom like that post too ?

Btw I taste the feeling of someone I respect click like on post I consider disrespectful/ sarcasm :)

Its more knowing my own body and mind. Being mindful of what I can handle mentally and physically. In person, I cant control that much. Im always around people. Online, I can. I just choose not to because regardless of ither peoples opinions I respect all beliefs even those I disagree.

I have an issue with understanding. My intentions behind my post explains that so I wont go into detail. Just I have to draw boundries. Its one thing if someone insults the surface of my personality. Its another to be insulted for my well-being.

I am not talking about anyone in particular. If something bothers me I try to avoid it. My morals conflict with avoiding people unless they cause me harm.

I need to understand harm is not always physical. Many perspectives to see how insults hurt people. Its not always on the surface.

I ignore people that are bigoted to the point that only they can work themselves out of it, and only on forums like this.
People probably ignore me for the same reason on here, I'm bigoted on some issues myself.

If I didn't ignore these people it would result in what I commonly do, insult them. Such is not allowed here, and I've been reminded of that a few times.
There are forums that allow flame wars and such, these are mainly biased to one religion or atheism, but I prefer regulated discussion as we have here.

I love all and ignore no one. Did someone suggest you should use the ignore feature or report you for some rule violation?
