How vindictive are you?

Do you report that which offends you or do you just let it slide?

Personally, I am of such a highly evolved nature that I would rather ignore the report button. In fact, upon analysis of this report button, I find it as irrational as the need for retail managers who cater to Karen.

I report suspected bots and such. Once in a blue moon but in general, people don't really bother me. Even if I'm threatened which had happened in the past on occasion.

Reporting is useful to keep the forum operating in a civil manner.
Being upset isn't reason enuf. Reporting for rule violations is useful.
Staff have been working to improve the rules, & take action to see
that they're honored. I've seen improvement. I thank them for
their work, & put in a request for a 5% pay raise this year.

This ... I report because I've heard that moderators don't act unless they get a report. If that's true, then this place would degenerate into a name calling free for all in no time at all, if nobody reported. But as others have said, not because I disagree, but because of a perceived rule infraction. I'm not always sure if any action was taken, as I don't keep track of the reports I make, which are relatively few.

But the forum stays civil, so we (all of us) must be overall doing something right.

The only times I used the report button was to report spam (and that is pleasantly rare on RF).
I may use it on propaganda for very extreme groups (Jihadists, Nazis, etc) but that has never happened here.

Reporting someone for offending me? When you are able to offend me, I might have a psychological problem I need to work on (and I may put you on ignore).

Nothing to do with vindictiveness. If you post here you are accepting the rules. The mods can't check every post so the report button covers that issue.
Without this we have an unmoderated forum, which I don't want, hence my presence. I've been on an unmoderated forum and it was pretty grim. (To be fair, I'm not very highly evolved).

How would it be high road to ignore violations of forum rules?

No matter how thick one's skin, without moderation this place
could see everyone riled up. Civil discussion would become
a rarity.

Btw, I notice that this thread already had some posts poofed.
I didn't see the offense as report-worthy, but it the action was
reasonable. Let us all honor the spirit of the forum.

If I called you a "poopy head" (in a non-friendly way),
that would properly warrant reporting the post.
We have a new rule about not calling anyone
dishonest. This is a good one.

But, its okay to call someone a 'poopy head', then, as long as my intentions are good?

This just opened up a whole new avenue of conversation for me!

I disagree, as there are times people are factually dishonest and spreading blatant lies. If they aren't lying, then the one accusing is filing a false report. But if lie is told a lie has been told.

People are poor judges of when someone is lying.
They typically have no evidence of intent to deceive.
It becomes just an insult.
If you disagree, & have evidence to back it up,
just make your case....no need to call "Liar!".

I think its hard to call, as some people spread what may seem like lies to a larger community, but they don't have the proper mindset or information to realize the information they're sharing is incorrect.

Kind of like a 7 year old running around telling everyone Santa's on his way. He just doesn't have all the information to realize this isn't correct. And if you tell him otherwise, he may not have the emotional maturity to accept it.

I don’t report anyone. No matter how much I am offended.
Maybe it’s my upbringing. But I just don’t like snitching on folks

As the refrain goes:

But oh, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

That is why one half thinks Trump always lies, the other that he never does.
