How vindictive are you?

Do you report that which offends you or do you just let it slide?

Personally, I am of such a highly evolved nature that I would rather ignore the report button. In fact, upon analysis of this report button, I find it as irrational as the need for retail managers who cater to Karen.

Unless it can cause harm in the real world I don't report it. Sexual aggression, Racial aggression will always get reported by me.

That may be. I'd let it slide and assume you had a bad day.
But if others see tacit allowing of personal hostilities,
it would inspire more of the same. Reporting shouldn't
be about personal feelings, but rather to encourage
a more civil, friendly, & interesting forum.

I think its hard to call, as some people spread what may seem like lies to a larger community, but they don't have the proper mindset or information to realize the information they're sharing is incorrect.

Kind of like a 7 year old running around telling everyone Santa's on his way. He just doesn't have all the information to realize this isn't correct. And if you tell him otherwise, he may not have the emotional maturity to accept it.
I am referring to bold faced, blatant lies. Like if someone misrepresents another, says homosexuals are satanic pedophiles, amd spewing potentially damaging nonsense.

Instead of responding with "Liar!", such a post could be reported as abusive.
Calling them that won't change any minds. And remember that if it were OK
to call people "dishonest" or "liar", it would be done so frequently & carelessly,
which we saw here before it was banned.

That's exactly why I wouldn't report insults directed at me.
As you said yourself, intention is hard to judge and it is double hard if I have skin in the game. I almost always apply Hanlon's Razor, it's better for my peace of mind.
(And I don't want the evidence buried.)

I, personally, never use it, and doubt I ever would. It would take something of an obviously egregious nature, that not only clearly violated the rules, but was specifically posted with intent to flout the rules and displayed the poster being a huge butthead about it. Like "evidence for God" - I can only state that I feel I would know it when I saw it, and until then, the required scenario simply doesn't exist.

One must judge if the insult is a friendly one.
When @Wu Wei calls me a "fetid Scot", I know
that it's affectionate...he's coming on to me.

Er, we've had tons of those posts over the years. We've had people calling for genocide and praising mass murderers. If that's not "egregious" to you, then I don't know what is.

I can say, to my defense and the mods' credit, I got a point breaking this new rule (it's how I learned about it), but the one I called out was flung off the bridge, I assume into the Gorge of Eternal Peril (or banned for less of a dramatic flair). It's not something I would throw out lightly, but it does happen.

Unfortunately, in those cases, those people think the nonsense they're spouting is true... they're too stupid/brainwashed to realize what they speak is the equivalent to the contents of a loaded diaper. Calling them a liar only adds fuel to the fire... Best to discredit them, so no one believes their garbage.

Though I think if someone was spewing something as harmful as the afore mentioned comment, the report feature might be appropriately used, as well.

If you do the crime, be prepared to do the time.
I understand.

I must not frequent the types threads that see those types of posts. I've honestly never seen anything like that in all my time here.
