Actually, people not speaking up is how a lot--probably most--crime goes unsolved and how many perpetrators are able to strike again. No one loves this silence more than criminals and abusers. Everyone keeps quit, the abuse goes on. Crime continues. Violent criminals have an easier time walking the streets free.

I haven't seen that work out well in real life as a trend where "doing that right thing" helped the one doing it
life doesn't work like the hollywood depictions typically, since justice seldom prevails and the one's who "stood up" tend to have repercussions to deal with after they made trouble......could come in a lot of forms since snubbed villains tend to get creative then

It didn't help me, but it's very likely I did help people the few times I've called drunk drivers in.
Somebody wants to run their mouth and there is no reason I have to deal with? I have no issues having the police make them leave.
A string a thefts and I know some them behind it? Either I let the police know or someone else gets robbed, and basically makes me an accomplice and accessory as my silence would have allowed it to happen.

That's where "snitches get stiches" tends to work. The real world is people acting like responsible adults. No, the cops aren't perfect and I don't trust them. But ethically crime should be reported as your silence does mean you are aiding it. I also don't play games or have the time and patients for people's crap. People wanna start crap on my property, they leave or I have no problems having the police make them leave.
