Track organizers ban transgender women from elite competitions

"World Athletics has banned transgender women from competing in elite female competitions if they have gone through male puberty, the sport's governing body said Thursday.

Organization president Sebastian Coe said at a news conference that the decision by the World Athletics Council to exclude transgender women was based "on the overarching need to protect the female category."

Coe added that World Athletics would form a task force to study transgender inclusion that would be chaired by a transgender athlete."

This happened today btw.

You can either favour fairer competition or you can favour inclusion.

You can’t achieve both.

I think fairer competition is the correct choice given the advantages of male puberty being so great that transitioning can turn a sub elite male into an elite female.

There is no other advantage that is remotely comparable so the “but some people are taller, etc.” arguments fail in this regard.

Some people might favour inclusion over fairness, but either way one group will be negatively affected. It’s really an issue if competing rights not an issue where there is one “correct” moral answer and one “wrong” immoral answer (like say with racial segregation in sport).

Some will see it unfair no matter what happens.

Well if the person in question has already gone through male puberty, then I suppose that is fair enough.
I mean on average those biological changes would make competition a bit unfair in most sports. I assume

It will be a tricky balance to achieve going forward. But sooner or later they (sports comps) will figure out a compromise
(Hopefully)
