Train Wrecks!

Tell everyone about the latest movie projects that you think will become awful movies.

I'll start with this.

And I hope that this is not produced. The most painful novel I ever read - how will they ever fit all of those monologs, including the sixty-page monster near the end, into a movie running a normal length of time (ie under four hours) is anyone's guess.

The cult of Meyers was bound to produce a film version of The Host. It was inevitable. As for the cult of Rand, well, the less said the better.

The remake of Battle Royale will likely remove the satirical element of the original in favor of elaborate action set pieces. The Birds is another rumoured remake that just seems ridiculous to attempt. But it's only in the planning stages so it may fade away. Rod Lurie's remake of Straw Dogs just baffles me. It has a solid cast but... It may not be the train wreck per the op but it still seems ridiculous. The Old Boy "remake" (more a return to the manga itself than a remake of Park's film) has train wreck written all over it mainly due to the casting of Will Smith. I'll admit I enjoy the ocassional Will Smith action flick, but this is terrible casting.

Will Smith has the unfortunate luck of being a good actor who picks bad movies to star in.

I have been dreading the US action movie of Akira for some time. Even the Japanese anime movie struggled to be coherent given the complexity of the original comics. What will Hollywood do with it?

I can't watch You-Tube. :(

Akira would be an extremely expensive movie to produce (I believe a 300m budget was suggested for the Akira movie at one point. Understandably, movie producers baulked at such a suggestion.)

I have high hopes for a live-action version of this movie, especially considering how much I love the anime and the graphic novel... but I suspect you may well be right in that it will be butchered. Having the location of the film apparently change from Neo-Tokyo to Neo-Manhattan (the writers seem to think that not enough Americans will enjoy a film set outside of America) seems to be a good indication that the writers will make quite a few dramatic changes.

I keep trying to bet my friends that 2012 will go down in horrible delicious flames... but no one will take it...

I see it going down, too.

Saw a trailer for it when I went to the cinemas last, and I couldn't stop laughing.

I think that generally, it's a safe bet that movies based on video games will be bad.

... with the possible exception of Mortal Kombat. It's no Citizen Kane, but it's a decent fantasy-action movie.

All I have to say is that if anyone ever announces plans to remake "Blazing Saddles," it will a sign of the imminent apocalypse.

WHAT!?!

Mortal combat was good?

The first one was watchable at best and all the sequels had a plot and acting worse than amature porn.

Resident evil? Hitman? Silent hill? Doom? Bloodrayne? Dead space? Tombraider? Postal (ok I know this one bombed but I thought it was hilarious)?

I agree it is kind of hit or miss with video game movies, (street fighter, double dragon, super mario brothers, etc.) but you can't dismiss a movie just because it is based on a video game. Some are actually really good.

How about Pirates of the Carribbean 5000.

Or the six Uwe Boll movies completed or in production.
