Trump as President

He's in office. The news reporters were saying maybe Trumps version of the Republican party is a new way of life Americans should want to explore like it was a new religion. They were saying Democrats should rethink the way they ran for office, and House and Senate are all Trump Republicans too.

I am not scared he is in office he wont change one solitary belief or thing for me at all. I am getting up tomorrow morning and the sun will shine like it always does. I will not listen to or watch his inauguration or hear him say one word. I will not listen to him. I am 57 years old, in 4 years I will be only 61,and he will be out of office and we will have another chance to vote someone else in. There will be no new movement ,it will blow over.

I am going to bed and forgetting all about what's his name. I will always be a free spirit flower child. Who cares about the Republicans.

Yes. UK was likely saying the same thing when Chamberlin got elected.

Democrats have a lot of time for reflection now, and I do hope sincerely that they will return to the Blue Dog Days when the party actually meant something.

Harris was a terrible candidate.

Now I hope that Trump will cut off the money to Ukraine - the only (potentially) positive thing about the election outcome, IMHO.

It is a dark day for environmental conservation :-(

Hey @F1fan , ready for those lottery numbers? lol

Still work to be done & plenty of time for Team Biden / Harris to expand their work with the Mexican criminal gangs and facilitate another 10 million people being trafficked into the country along with record amounts deadly drugs

As you say it is only four years down the drain.
But I and many others have lost a lot of respect for the American people who have voted in to office, some one, of such bad character.

However from a liberal British and European point of view ,neither the Republicans nor Democrats have acceptable international nor domestic policies.
For years America has been living as a debtor, to the cost of the rest of the world, and living off their wealth and resources.
Only recently has it's hegemony been challenged. China, is now rapidly overtaking the USA in almost every metric. The East and South, together, now dominated world trade and supply chains.

It is inevitable that the isolationist policies of Trump, will further weaken the USA. It's people will become increasingly poor. This will by default weaken other countries that have close ties with them.

It will become increasingly apparent to many nations that their interests are better served by closer ties with China and the South. American extortionate higher costs will price themselves out of the world trade markets, and no one will want, or be able to afford their goods and services, nor to continue to trade in the US dollar.

Higher Tariffs will discourage bidirectional trade with America, and higher American prices will prevent American companies selling to the world.

BRICS or it's successor, will develop into the defacto world trade organisation, and trade will be conducted in both local currencies, and a new settlement currency based on a basket of currencies and gold.

America may have the opportunity of joining with and adopting such a settlement and trading currency arrangement. But it's hegemony will end.

This will probably take more than four years to be completed, but is becoming increasingly evident that this is now inevitable.

I disagree. She had very good ideas. She wasn't a perfect candidate.

What is terrible is the thinking of American citizens. This is unbelievable, that America is this poor at judgment.

Do you realize this will cause instability in Europe? That's not good.

It will be dark in all ways. RFK in control of the CDC? Jesus, this is going to be bad.

America and the planet has already lost the lottery.

Do you ever hope to post honesty?

Never mind as I have more important things to do.

We agree on several points. But as to Ukraine, that is Europe's problem.

Have you considered that the result will be many, many more dead Ukrainians and an occupation by the most psychotic regime on the planet?

I have given the issue a lot of thought, yes. I have no interest in propping up Ukraine. Our (American) escalation of the conflict is what is causing more deaths.

So, we should abandon NATO?
NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It isn't Europe exclusive. So non-European members of NATO wouldn't be abandoning it by allowing European countries to resolve non-NATO issues by themselves without becoming involved.

Maybe it's best for one to actually study NATO, why it was created, and what is has accomplished before responding.

Ukraine is not in NATO. I have no interest propping up an extremely corrupt former Soviet state, escalating the killing and risking WWIII. I mean, we sent cluster bombs to Ukraine! The hypocrisy of the American government disgusts me.

Imagine if Zelensky stepped down and the Ukrainian people emulated Mahatma Gandhi. I get it, pacifism is not sexy these days. God help us.

Hope you are right, he can do a lot of bad things in a short time, especially if he has control of everything which it appears he will.

But personally I think he can potentially worsen things a whole lot, not only for the American democracy, but also turn the US even more into a corporate America, but also globally or for the environment.
