anna.

colors your eyes with what's not there
Hope you are right, he can do a lot of bad things in a short time, especially if he has control of everything which it appears he will.

But personally I think he can potentially worsen things a whole lot, not only for the American democracy, but also turn the US even more into a corporate America, but also globally or for the environment.

The billionaires won.

Have you considered that the result will be many, many more dead Ukrainians and an occupation by the most psychotic regime on the planet?
Yes and no, it depends on what he aims to do.

With the help and limitations that the US put on Ukraine now, the war could last for a very long time, so even if he had lost. Harris would still have to do something more than Biden has.

The problem is that Trump might give in to Russia which would make Putin appear as the winner and frankly be confirmed that he can do **** like this and get away with it. And it would also make a Western alliance appear weak and most importantly it it would cost Ukraine and eventually EU and the US because Putin is not going to pay for all the things he has destroyed we are going to do that.

And Trump might be seen as a "hero" in the US but as an idiot in the rest of the world and I think the US would lose a lot of respect, to be honest.

On the other side if he just pulls the help to Ukraine and leaves EU to help Ukraine fight Russia, Iran, NK, and China then EU is also going to lose.

It is a lot of money, but keep in mind that the Danish and Estonian people give around 6 times as much per capita to Ukraine than the US does.

Denmark donated the most significant percentage of its 2021 gross domestic product (GDP) to help Ukraine over the period between January 24, 2022, and June 30, 2024. Denmark contributed 1.83 percent of its GDP in bilateral aid, followed by Estonia with 1.66 percent of GDP. Besides the Nordic and Baltic countries, Poland donated the largest share of GDP.

The US is only at 0.35%, so sure it sounds like a lot of money and it is, but the US is not even in top 10 per capita.

Bilateral aid allocations to Ukraine

So I do think that the US might be misled slightly about it and how much of an impact it would have not supporting Ukraine, compared to the cost of giving Putin a victory when looking at the long run.

Regardless of who won, something has to change if we are to solve it. Because having a war like this with the 2 biggest economies on each side can't be good for anyone.

As you say it is only four years down the drain.
But I and many others have lost a lot of respect for the American people who have voted in to office, some one, of such bad character.

However from a liberal British and European point of view ,neither the Republicans nor Democrats have acceptable international nor domestic policies.
For years America has been living as a debtor, to the cost of the rest of the world, and living off their wealth and resources.
Only recently has it's hegemony been challenged. China, is now rapidly overtaking the USA in almost every metric. The East and South, together, now dominated world trade and supply chains.

It is inevitable that the isolationist policies of Trump, will further weaken the USA. It's people will become increasingly poor. This will by default weaken other countries that have close ties with them.

It will become increasingly apparent to many nations that their interests are better served by closer ties with China and the South. American extortionate higher costs will price themselves out of the world trade markets, and no one will want, or be able to afford their goods and services, nor to continue to trade in the US dollar.

Higher Tariffs will discourage bidirectional trade with America, and higher American prices will prevent American companies selling to the world.

BRICS or it's successor, will develop into the defacto world trade organisation, and trade will be conducted in both local currencies, and a new settlement currency based on a basket of currencies and gold.

America may have the opportunity of joining with and adopting such a settlement and trading currency arrangement. But it's hegemony will end.

This will probably take more than four years to be completed, but is becoming increasingly evident that this is now inevitable.
So basically Trump being in office is great for my country.

Not completely, in the short term he will do a lot of damage to everyone.
China will lose jobs factories will close. And there will be little opportunity for students and postgrads to study in the USA. In the long term these things will work in China's favour as they become more and more self sufficient. With no need to rely on any American technology.

However all this will be extremely damaging to the USA with destructive inflation, and lowering standards of living and the eventual collapse of the dollar. Even the military costs will become unaffordable. None of these things are new and have been becoming problematic for years, but Trump's policies will exacerbate and speed up the processes.

China should discourage any establishment of Chinese factories on American territory, or the training of American workers. Any such handover of Chinese knowhow and expertise would be self damaging.

I live in South Africa. If his actions allow for the strengthening of BRICS then that is great for us. The collapse of the dollar means freedom from Americas clutches.

All countries will suffer from Trump's tariffs in the short term, because things they sell to the USA will become more expensive and sales will fall. He is also likely to ban trade with countries and companies doing business with China.
BRICS will morph into something larger to the benefit of members.
It will benefit South Africa to establish even closer ties with China and fellow BRICS members.

If countries are banned from trading with America or with each other. There will be no incentive or reason for them to settle any Dollar debts with America. This will further weaken the dollar.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
......

It is a dark day for environmental conservation :-(
I think you can have both productivity and be environmentally responsible too. I would be against destroying an environment without responsibly giving back in kind.

Hopefully there will be plans in place to minimize the damage vs reclamation for nature to keep a balance.

Yes. And hopefully this will make it more feasible for BRICS to use its own currency. Which to us means no longer being chained by America's whims.

Not under Trump's watch,
He has shown no interest in the environment nor global warming.
He wanted the wind turbines removed from the view of his golf courses in Scotland, he even took them to court. They were miles out to sea.

I can't see how massive wind turbines out in the ocean could be environmentally friendly either.
