Whether he was dealt with harshly or not, Presidential interference on cases is problematic.
It undermines confidence in judicial process.

A key tenet of a justice system is a need for justice to be done, and for justice to be seen to be done. I don't see how this helps at all on either level.

Exactly, because a sitting president is not supposed to weigh in on sentencing, nor is the Attorney General. As it was, Barr wanted a reduction in the sentence and got it.

Trump and Barr clearly have no respect for the U.S. "rule of law", as we have continually witnessed over the last three years, and even some veteran Republicans feel that our democracy is in serious danger.
