The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump is impressed with the money Bessent made under Soros and does not see that part of his résumé as a downside. It’s unclear how conservatives more broadly will react to the elevation of a former Soros employee to the Cabinet, given the widespread vilification among many Trump allies of the Hungarian billionaire, who donates to many liberal causes. Bessent and Soros have not spoken since 2016.​

Bessent also has social ties to other elites: He is friends with King Charles III and Queen Camilla of Britain, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and friends with Princess Firyal of Jordan, according to a biography he provided. Bessent is a “frequent guest” at Buckingham Palace, and the queen stayed at his East Hampton, New York, home during her first trip to the United States.​

In a 2015 interview with the Yale Daily News, Bessent, who graduated from Yale in 1984, said: “If you had told me in 1984, when we graduated, and people were dying of AIDS, that 30 years later I’d be legally married and we would have two children via surrogacy, I wouldn’t have believed you.”​

Why would there be a freak out? Trump values loyalty above all else and Bessent has been a loyal and vocal Trump supporter. The Left already knows this, so I don’t think their reaction will be, “Oh My!!! He picked a gay guy!!!” Rather, it will be, “Trump picked another loyalist *eyeroll*”

I thought it was implied but I see now I may have misread the post. When he said “MAGA freak out,” I thought he was saying the Left would freak out on MAGAs because Trump chose a gay guy. I now see he meant MAGAs would freak out because their Lord and Savior Trump chose a gay guy. My bad.
