This bromance is bad for the country.
Excerpted...
Donald Trump has vowed to reach Mars if he wins the presidential campaign.

The orange manbaby, 78, wants the US to reach the Red Planet “by the end of my term”. He also wants there to be “great military protection in space”.

The Republican presidential candidate said he will “talk” to SpaceX boss Elon Musk about getting the mission going. He told supporters in North Carolina: “We want to reach Mars by the end of my term.

Are you against pace exploration and development generally, or just when it involves Trump and Musk?

I favor space exploration.
But I'm against massively wasting money.
You're not?

Space exploration by sending humans is far far
riskier & more expensive than using machines,
eg, remote sensing, unmanned probes. Those
tools have yield so much more information per
dollar than space travel by humans....who die
so easily.
Musk could very well be tricking himself & Trump
into belief that a Mars colony is practical. Or
he & Trump are lying to a gullible public for
political gain.

Space exploration leads to technological advancement. Are you aware that there’s a turf war in space for satellite orbit routes?

He would talk to Elon. And Elon would figure out how to make it happen.

How is Elon going to make that happen? Especially within the timeframe of 4 years. It would take 7-8 months just for the one way trip to Mars itself let alone all the planning and testing needed to make such a dangerous mission safe. I'm sorry but it just sounds like more BS to me. Is Mexico going to pay for this one too?

And I should add that I am not for wasting money and certainly the alternatives you lay out are more efficient and fiscally sound. But I do think sending a person to Mars would create excitement and fervor that would lead to benefits for the world.

Anyone wonder why all these billionairs are so into space travel? Do you suppose it's because they actually know how much danger their businesses have put the earth's climate, and thus ability to support human life, in?

Count on it, there will room fro their cronies on whatever means of escape they come up with -- but not for the rest of us.

I get it. You hate Trump and yes he says a lot of stupid things. But why squash striving for greatness.

Yes.
Space exploration & tech advances will both
continue without sending people to Mars.

Yes.
Are you aware that a colony on Mars would
be irrelevant to Earth orbiting satellites?
Not totally. Striving for Mars puts emphasis on space and budgets and developments that could benefit the space turf issues.

Nah, that's not it.
Some see space travel as exciting & fun.
Mars is not a Plan B.
It's inhospitable to life.
Even the Moon is better.

"Puts emphasis" is such a touchy feely term.
If "space turf" is the issue, then pursue that....not
a Mars colony with hope that it will somehow
benefit this orbital turf war.
