I'm not that chronically paranoid and conspiratorial as others are.

But that is what demagogues do -- they are typically political leaders who seek support by appealing to the desires and prejudices and fears of ordinary people rather than by using rational argument. And when a demagogue wants something done, he doesn't have to go to one person or another to get them to do it -- he just has to know that among all those who are listening to his voice are those whose fears and prejudices will lead them to do what they understand their idol wants.
And Trump has a long history of doing exactly that. I posted a lot of examples of Trump doing this in Post #26.
