Trump "Tearing U.S. Apart"?

metis

aged ecumenical anthropologist
"The majority of Americans think Donald Trump is tearing the US apart, according to a Fox News poll.

Just 33 per cent said the US President was "drawing the country together," while 56 per cent said he was instead "tearing the country apart."

The number of voters who said they were happy with how things were going in the US has fallen to 35 per cent, the lowest score since 2013.

Mr Trump's job ratings were also negative, with 55 per cent disapproving of his work as president and 41 per cent saying they approve.

It gives him a net disapproval rating of -14 points, his worst score to date. A previous poll conducted around 100-days into his administration put his ratings at minus three points..."

It doesn't really matter since the civil war ended states rights to secede. We're stuck together.

It's funny that people think Trump could be solely responsible for the condition of the US. And he caused Hurticane Harvey too no doubt.

I'm so tired of hearing about this guy and while he's not my fave person, he isn't responsible for everything that's going wrong in the US. He and every other president are mere reflections of the country that voted for them.

I think the country was already torn apart. Obama faced an unprecedented amount of challenge and animosity. It has a number of factors and no one person is to blame. Trump is a symptom of the problem, not the cause. He contributes toward this divisiveness, but blame cannot be solely laid at his feet.

I don't feel torn apart.
No local effects.
Never before had a Prez I liked, so this is no different.

And yes, it's all about me.

Like in my previous post, who said he is solely to blame? I didn't imply that and neither did the article.

What we are seeing here is a president that is acting in a manner like we've never seen before, and we also seeing implications for his actions and words.

This thread is not meant to be some sort of cheap shot at Trump, but we need to deal with the reality of what he's been doing and what the effect has been. No other president has acted like this guy, so let's be real about that

Does Trump reflect some of the disenchantment within the public that preceded his election? Yes, no doubt. But this disenchantment didn't end with the election, and there are more than enough signs to indicate that it is still growing.

The problem is that Democrats can only do so much to fix the problems Republicans cause, and Americans never seem to learn the lesson. So just as the Democrat has done some good, the next elected president is a Republican who just messes everything up again.

No the problem is that both parties believe they are the only answer and aren't able to compromise which would actually be the best answer.

Well as I said in my post, the. Country was torn apart already as evidenced by behavior in recent politics prior to Trump. Trump is not doing anything to help the situation, but I do not believe Trump is "tearing the U.S. apart."

I don't think Trump is tearing the US apart any more than has happened in the recent past. He may be a catalyst or a focal point at the present time, but he isn't the cause of divisiveness in this country.

As for the "lowest score since 2013," that was a mere four years ago.

I think the pundits and politicians (including Trump) have been making a lot of mountains out of molehills and trying to rile up the public - and that may explain most of what's going on these days. But I don't think that can be blamed totally on Trump. As always, it takes two to tango.

The leader of the free world and America is always responsible. Someone with no morals and lies continuously isn't something to be ignored.
Trump and Co proved that people will vote based on things they like to hear. Doesn't matter if those things are true or even accomplishable.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Trump is dividing the U.S. I still cannot believe Americans voted for him.

I was surprised Fox didn't hire another MTV reality star. Hannity was pushing Tomi a few weeks back, letting her give the 'final word' in the last few minutes of his performance show. That was the first sign that Fox was giving her a trial run to see if she could read the teleprompter.
No morals at that 'news' station, they hire from the bottom of the barrel because the audience will think a pretty person is more trustworthy.

The American public has been tearing itself apart for years now. Trump has just added more fuel to the fire and gotten people more worked up and polarized more quickly than they already have been getting. I think the same thing would probably have happened had Clinton gotten elected. Granted, she would have said a lot fewer stupid things, but I doubt the mood in the country would be any better.
