Many probably died from complications that covid probably triggered. I would assume there are more cases than deaths.

And others died because procedures they needed were postponed while hospitals dealt with the COVID-19 crisis. Nobody is counting those.

Next, the mechanics: in many states (not all) mail-in votes are not processed until after the polls close, so while the polls are open, how could they be checked? And in any case, any mail-in ballot with a postmark on or before the close of polls, but only by a few days, would most likely not have yet been processed, even in those states where processing can begin early.

Exactly. Not sure what point you're trying to make. If you send your ballot in in time, your name should be marked out on the rolls if it's acknowledged. You should not be able to vote at the polls later. No brainer.

Sixteen states do not allow sufficient time for mail-in ballots to be registered, so that in-person voting can be denied to somebody who has already mailed in a ballot.

That's a nice spin, but not true. His point was to make sure your vote was counted check that it was registered, and if it wasn't go to the polls regardless of whether you mailed it. If you vote twice under you same name nothing happens, your first vote gets counted and your second gets pitched. NPR is an extreme leftist ****-hole at this point, please don't consider them even vaguely balanced reporting. I mean, they're better than CNN, but not by much.

If the voting officials do not count your vote by election day you haven't voted, thus no double-vote.

I will accept that Trump has no idea how the election works in many states and when mail in ballots can be checked off as being received. And from ignorance and arrogance he made a truly stupid suggestion.

The net effect is that some will sadly believe him because they can't see how often he lies and how often he's clearly ignorant and try to do what he literally said.
